My watch will not “prompt” to a score when I get on the green

The last two days my watch stopped switching to the score card when I walk on to the green. Now it just shows the green but now I have a “pencil” icon where the virtual caddy is located. I touch the pencil and I then get the score card and I have to enter my score.

The watch has been working perfectly for months and just started this for the last two rounds.

Can anyone please help?

Thank you

  • This is probably the biggest step backwards in the functionality of the watch and is hit and miss. How do I back out of this update that I did not want, have not requested and makes the watch absolutely useless. Thanks

  • Hello, I completely agree..with this version you can see the hole map when you are on the green BUT it does not workb propertly :you have to change the hole manually and update the score card based on your initiative...Most of the tmes the watch remains in the previous hole..

    Thanks for your support

  • First, making a major change in the interface like this without even explaining it is not smart. I've been thinking my watch was failing and VERY FRUSTRATED.  Old method was much better. Distance was still easily available by pushing ONE BUTTON.  New system best performance was three out of 18 holes in three rounds on three different courses.  Every time it doesn't work requires MANY button pushes to enter score and change holes. CHANGE IT BACK OR GIVE US THE OPTION TO USE PREVIOUS LOGIC.

  • My Approach S62 does the same thing. I read to shut off my phone and watch, uninstall all three Garmin apps on my phone. Then reinstall them.  Hopefully that works. Haven't been on the course since performing all these steps. Will repost

  • Yep, its just farcical now, going off wandering to try and get the score entry to show, golf is hard enough without a failing device that has gone from being one of the best aids I had to being a glorified fitbit. How do I go about getting a refund ?.

  • I use the S62 on a regular basis and it works extremely well.  With the new firmware, when you approach the green there is a small black area at the bottom of the screen; select that and you are then shown the score entry screen.  This has the advantage, compared to the old firmware, that the green and distances are still shown.  If you choose not to enter the score whilst on the green, then when you walk away the watch buzzes to remind you that you have not entered the screen and the score screen automatically displays.  It all works extremely well and is very intuitive.

If yours is not working correctly then do a factory reset and then update all settings and firmware through Garmin Express, then ensure that scoring is selected in the settings.  When you start a round the watch will ask if you wish to do scoring, select yes; hopefully it will all work correctly from there.

  • I prefer the new system as well. It's surely not too hard to remember to press the score button when hole completed just as you would write on a scorecard or enter a digital score for handicap monitoring.

  • Thanks Dave, I have since found out that the score button is not present if you have big numbers set, which is why it’s been a royal pain for me. Setting it to standard and I now have the ability to enter the score easily again.

  • Glad you have found the solution to the problem.  Whilst the big numbers are useful, they do restrict some of the functionality.

  • This update basically rendered the watch useless for me. It will not regularly prompt me to enter score after completing a hole. More often when I am teeing off on the next hole, it's still showing the distance to the previous hole's green.

It is way too much of a pain to manually navigate to the scorecard and enter each score, then change the hole to the next hole. It is a huge inconvenience and does not work properly.
