System Software 4.00 - Added improved scoring user experience.

With the new System Software 4.00 update what is the "Added improved scoring user experience"

I played golf yesterday 20/01/2022 and the new update had been initiated however when I reached the green the usual change to the scoring that I would normally experience didn't activate.

What has changed to the scoring since the update, I have noticed that there is an icon now appearing in the field that would normally have the club selection (pen looking icon) which once selected brought the scoring facility to the screen.

Can you confirm this is the new format of scoring or should the auto change to scoring still be working?

  • Hi Andy, posted a similar question, but haven't tried out version 4 on the course yet. But from your post it sounds like nothing 'radical' has been improved if anything at all.

A detailed explanation of "Added improved scoring user experience" is the least we can expect, unless its basically nothing that has been done feature wise (going from version 2.6 to 4.0 I would expect something except some fixes).

  • Hi, I did notice your post earlier and really wanted to get some sort of clarification on the "Added improved scoring user experience" posted a few days ago.

Hopefully we will get some sort of answer as I found it rather frustrating when I first arrived onto the green and no scoring appeared. It was only after about 5-6 holes I noticed the pen/pencil icon in the usual club selection area at the bootom of the watch face and selected it and ofund that the scoring appeared.

The auto appearing score feature has always been a great feature so save you having to keep rememebring to enter a score and also the vibration feature as you walk away from the green to remind you to score. This seems to have disappeared for some reason and wanted clarification to see if this was the update or a problem with my wathc.

I've had this watch for about a year now and impressed by the way it works but changes like this need to be documented not just a update to "Added improved scoring user experience" with no explanation.

  • Past history on this tells me we will get only vague notes with little to no context.

My opinion, Garmin has little to tell us as they did little in the update or they don't want to be called on anything so they are vague.

    Disappointed again.

I sometimes see resumes like this. Lots of vague statements with no meat.

I would always skip this applicant. So I guess in this case, I wouldn't hire Garmin. Slight smile

  • I'm afraid you are right.....If I could go back I would buy something else. The watch in it self is good and works, but the software is a joke, I question if the developers actually play themselves......

    I wouldn't hire them either ;-)

  • So far my experience after playing 9 holes is that the new 'improved' scoring experience is that you have to click the 'pencil' in the bottom in order to enter your score, so the same that you see Andy......

  • Thanks for letting me know. To be honest I don't see this as an improvement, just another action to include whilst playing. Why would having to selct the pen/pencil icon improve user interaction, have the score appear as you arrive onto the green was so much easier and less of a pain.....

  • totally agree, so many things that could easily be approved, wont begin to list them as it is a waste of time and they will never be implemented :-(

Think I'm close to finding something else. Yesterday I accidently clicked 'Driver' in shot tracking, when I had made a shot with my 9 iron, tried to fix it by going to 'Last shot' but couldn't change it (which should be easy to do), so now my longest 9 iron shot is 230 m :-| and the only way to fix that is my delete my 9 iron from stats and start over, how stupid......

If I had the time and money I would create my own system :-)

  • Noticed today, the number of shots played when you walk onto the green, has stopped displaying. Also auto advance to next hole seems problematic. It was all ok 20th January now it seems to not be working

  • You can change the club used. But unfortunately you can't do it till you finish your round of golf. I wish you could do it during your round. I can't believe for the cost of this watch. It is so limited. I did put in a request to Garmin. I think everybody should. You can go in the app. Select the hole. Tap on the club that was entered wrong and it will bring up a edit club page.

  • So I might be in the minority here.. but you are talking about putting mode right? Instead of automatically changing based on proximity to the green it is now a button press? Did I understand you right?

I actually wouldn't hate that... chips around the green always go into putting mode prematurely which causes those shots to be missed. Youd have to either fix it post-round or with a lot of fiddling. And since I already have a Garmin putting sensor on my club, I think that is a good change (again unless I am misunderstanding you?).

But I agree that more clarity regarding the change would be great, I just got the update on my watch and came here looking to see what was in it and im still not sure!
