System Software 4.00 - Added improved scoring user experience.

With the new System Software 4.00 update what is the "Added improved scoring user experience"

I played golf yesterday 20/01/2022 and the new update had been initiated however when I reached the green the usual change to the scoring that I would normally experience didn't activate.

What has changed to the scoring since the update, I have noticed that there is an icon now appearing in the field that would normally have the club selection (pen looking icon) which once selected brought the scoring facility to the screen.

Can you confirm this is the new format of scoring or should the auto change to scoring still be working?

  • During my round of golf today and after the brief explanation of the new scoring I can now fully understand the reasoning behind the new scoring facility, especially whilst walking upto the green and still being able to see the yardage to enable a chip onto the putting area.

However the auto scoring appearing when walking away from the previous green to the next tee didn’t work on every hole, and the vibration alert also to remind you to score. When this auto scoring didn't register or vibrate and you took the next shot the watch was still registered to the previous hole and wasn't able to register the club taken so a little erratic, (and club selection is working again on my watch so something positive) so remembering to score the previous hole is always a must.

Lets hope another update my resolve/iron out some of these wrinkles.

  • For the round I played 2 days ago, the new scoring process with pencil icon and auto enter scorecard input vibration worked perfectly for me.  Could I suggest folks do a full power off/power on of their watches to see if that lets things work better.

For the folks who still want the scorecard input feature showing as you approach the green, how can you possibly know your actual total strokes for the hole when you haven't putted out yet?

  • I agree that the feature is actually okay and makes sense, I think perhaps most of the responses is frustration that this is the only feature coming after a year of not receiving any updates what so ever.

Clicking the pencil and then puts is no problem for me, I'll see if I can check today if it works better with chips around the green when it haven't automatically switched to 'enter puts'.....

Hello, we have made adjustments to scoring prompt to improve the overall user experience. You can find more information on the support page linked below.

Adjustment to Scoring Prompt on Compatible Approach Devices

  • New"improved" firmware is awful. Hoping Garmin allows us to go back to 2.6. Auto hole advance is now very spotty. Waiting to enter score until next tee box only slows down play. Total disappointment

  • You don't have to wait until you get to the next teebox though; as soon as you've finished putting, just press the pencil icon and fill-in your score while waiting for the others in the group to finish their putts.  If you're the last to putt out then press the pencil icon as soon as you leave the green or wait the few steps until you get to the next teebox.  Either way it's ultimately your responsibility to record the score, not the watch's.  You would be using a similar process if updating a physical scorecard Slight smile

  • I must admit I felt exactly the same about the firmware update but now fully understand the reason why this was updated this way. I have been using the new firmware for about 2 months now (playing at least 2 times a week) and have got used to the idea of scoring whilst waiting for the other players to finish or scoring as I go to the next tee (and having the vibration alert if I forget) This method has made it easier to allow input of a shot close to the green whereas before the watch used to sometimes switch to final scoring mode before I had even had chance to input the chip onto the green for instance, and get the yardage close to the green. It did take some getting used to but now find it not a problem.

I think one of my biggest grievances was Garmin didn't really explain what the changes were and give prior warning so when I first went out on the course knew what was expected. I personally thought the watch had failed on the firmware update and wasn't working correctly. I wasn't the only one in my group of friends that play felt the same way and were decidedly shocked at no notification/explanation of changes being made and output in a firmware update

  • I agree with Andy, at first I was disappointed, but playing a few weeks I actually enjoy the new 'feature', perhaps because it now works better with my ct10's
