Notifications have become intermittent. Is my watch defective?

Notifications have stopped working on my watch. I didn't realize until after I got an S60 how much I appreciate this feature! I have gone through the manual, powered off and restarted both my phone and watch several times, uninstalled and reinstalled the Garmin Connect app, nothing seems to be a complete fix. When I reinstall the app notifications may work for a short period. And occasionally they'll work but for the most part this function is no longer operable. Looking for anyone with similar experiences especially if there's a fix available. Have researched as best I can to no avail. Second question, something I really don't want to do if at all possible but what would be the worst case if I reset the watch entirely?

  • I've been meaning to post this for a while but no time.
I have a theory, it's only a theory but perhaps someone can confirm.
I have a Google Pixel 5 phone... So it's running pure Android, I don't have too many apps installed
What I have found is, if I go drive my car and Android Auto connects it seems the Approach S62 stops sending notifications after a while...
After I turn the car off, I swipe down on the phone, disable Bluetooth the reenable Bluetooth and I start getting notifications again.
I'm wondering if the Approach S62 doesn't like competing with other Bluetooth devices.
I know for a fact I cannot share my music with my girlfriend if we both have Bluetooth headsets trying to connect to the same device I'm guessing its designed that way...
So perhaps the S62 has a Bluetooth sharing issue...just my thoughts

  • I love how we all are trying to do the softwear engineers` job for them as they are too useless to do it themselves. No disrespect to the guys who are trying to help but the fact is that we are stuck with a damn expensive rangefinder, thats all. GARMIN doesnt care as we can see on this forum and the only reason they keep on making excuses and keeping this thread alive is so that the guys responsible for this can keep their jobs. Thats all it is because if they were rated on performance they wouldve been fired 7 months ago. But Garmin cant do that because then they have egg on their face. So we keep on getting lame, vague excuses and the cycle continues.

  • Yep I agree. I'm trying my best to make my £500 watch work.

I'm still having success with my android sleeping apps theory.

For anyone else that wants to test it. On a Samsung, settings, apps, Garmin Golf, battery, optimise battery usage and set to to not optimised.

This may be different on other flavours of android but essentially I'm just trying to make the phone not send Garmin Golf to sleep.

    It's working so far.

  • Since last weekend when it was said new system software was out ( 2.60 ) which I thought was the app but it’s for the watch , I checked my watch and that’s what is running ( must of auto updated ?) …I then deleted the Golf App and reinstalled it and logged in etc  Now since then , 7 days later , I’ve had no issues with notifications- all are coming through !!
Over these days I’ve switched watch off , I’ve lost Bluetooth due to distance and it’s then reconnected when back in range , I’ve played a golf round , I’ve recharged it etc etc

fingers crossed Fingers crossed so far so good , So was it the watch system software or re installing the golf app ?? Or am I just lucky so far ???

  • Def could have been watch software. I noted that mine updated too. Co-incidentally at the same time I started testing the sleep element. I think it could be the watch software that's solved it.

  • I'm on v. 2.01 and watch v. 2.6 and notifications stop as soon as an hour after a BT enable disable. I did notice that battery optimisation was off for connect app but on for the golf app, so have disabled it to see if that helps. Phone is a pixel 5 with android 11.

  • It'll be interesting to see what happens with the optimisation on Garmin golf. I'm convinced it's involved. Mine have been fine since I disabled it.

  • My Golf app is set for ‘ optimise batter usage  ‘ = ON , and the only permissions are calendar and location ( when app in use )

The Connect app is ‘optimise battery usage’ = NOT optimised . Permissions allowed are calendar , calls , files / media , location , phone and sms .

The watch has been fine for 8 days now , sending me notifications,  after I checked watch system software was 2.6 and then uninstalling / re installing the Golf App

    *fingers still crossed Sweat smile

  • Just a thought : since the watch system upgrade to 2.6 , have you uninstalled and then reinstalled the Golf App on phone ? That’s all I did last weekend and so far - so good with the notifications

    *fingers still crossed Smile
