Notifications have become intermittent. Is my watch defective?

Notifications have stopped working on my watch. I didn't realize until after I got an S60 how much I appreciate this feature! I have gone through the manual, powered off and restarted both my phone and watch several times, uninstalled and reinstalled the Garmin Connect app, nothing seems to be a complete fix. When I reinstall the app notifications may work for a short period. And occasionally they'll work but for the most part this function is no longer operable. Looking for anyone with similar experiences especially if there's a fix available. Have researched as best I can to no avail. Second question, something I really don't want to do if at all possible but what would be the worst case if I reset the watch entirely?

  • Our Approach S62 and Golf APP engineers are looking into the issue and will resolve it as quickly as possible. The Golf APP is suspect #1 for the issue.

The only reason we do not recommend fully resetting your Approach S62, customers I have worked with directly that are reporting the issue, have found removing their Approach S62 from the Golf APP and Bluetooth pairing back to the Golf APP will temporarily resolve the issue.

    No full reset is needed.

  • This happens to me a lot too. I just quit and relaunch the Garmin Connect app and it starts working again. But it’s still a total pain.

  • This is new information. Thank you for your update. Are you using an Android smartphone or an iPhone?

The Approach S62 doesn't require the Garmin Connect Mobile APP, only the Golf APP for syncing and viewing golf scorecards. If your Garmin Connect Mobile APP seems to be the directly involved culprit for your issue and it resolves by fully closing the GCM APP and re-opening it again, your information is valuable. Please confirm. Thank you.

  • I’m using an iPhone updated to most recent iOS. I was referring only to the email/text/etc. notifications that drop out intermittently. Golf App and scorecards work fine. Thanks.

  • I'm on Android. Messages didn't work for the past few days, then started working yesterday late afternoon and through this morning. Stopped working around noon. Very frustrating.

Separately, and maybe I should start a new post but on Sunday watch wouldn't register steps. I hadn't turned activity tracking off, and even did a tracked walk. Uninstalled and reinstalled app, turned watch on and off twice, no changes. When I finished walking I powered off the watch for an hour or so and it worked. My steps for the day until then weren't tracked, also frustrating. Attaching pics for reference.

  • *I set my notifications as recommended via the golf and GCM app. I don't believe I'd ever set notifications via the golf app. Certainly appreciate the the responses and support, I really want my watch to function correctly. It concerns me that these things happened on the heels of it acting up a few weeks earlier. I'd scroll up or down from main screen and select one of the options (weather, OWM, notifications etc.) and the watch would power off. At that time I left it powered off overnight and it was normal in the morning. The notifications issue started within a couple weeks. All of this started with the mysterious shutdown I'd say around Thanksgiving.

Lots of info here, please let me know if I should contact anyone offline, or if someone is able to contact me directly that would be appreciated also. I love the S62, got it this summer so one thing I want to figure out is warranty/exchange process if the issues continue or anything new occurs.

    Thank you.

  • Steps come from your accelerometer and the natural swing of your arm while wearing your Approach S62. The incoming smart notifications stopping is a known issue being worked on by our engineers to resolve as soon as possible. (See my post above.)

Regardless of what Garmin Outdoor watch you own, if any functionality such as steps, the OHR sensor, anything that stops working properly - 99.99% of the time, your issue will resolve with a soft reset. On the Approach S62, that means a long hold of the middle right button until your watch shuts off, then let go.

If you continue to have step related issues, please reach out to our Golf Product Support team. We will be happy to assist further.

  • Ah, OK...I didn't interpret the earlier response as noting that intermittent notifications is a known issue. That's encouraging. If the steps issue happens again I'll restart again, I thought that's what I did but will ensure that I hold the button longer. Appreciate the insights and continued assistance. Definitely relieved that notifications isn't just me. Thank you again.

  • I also have had no smart notifications for a few days so following this post with interest

  • I am sorry you are experiencing the issue too. The temporary work around is removing your S62 from the Golf APP and Settings > Bluetooth menu on your Android phone and Bluetooth pairing again through the Golf APP.
