Notifications have become intermittent. Is my watch defective?

Notifications have stopped working on my watch. I didn't realize until after I got an S60 how much I appreciate this feature! I have gone through the manual, powered off and restarted both my phone and watch several times, uninstalled and reinstalled the Garmin Connect app, nothing seems to be a complete fix. When I reinstall the app notifications may work for a short period. And occasionally they'll work but for the most part this function is no longer operable. Looking for anyone with similar experiences especially if there's a fix available. Have researched as best I can to no avail. Second question, something I really don't want to do if at all possible but what would be the worst case if I reset the watch entirely?

  • I took one person's advice and tried turning the bluetooth off (on my phone) and then back on again, and it worked! That was only a few days ago and I have not played golf again since then so this may be just a temporary fix. If Garmin doesn't come up with something permanent, I will be looking elsewhere for my next watch.

By the way: To all you dads out there - Happy Father's Day

  • if this bug has been going on for more than 6 months, it starts to be a really pathetic situation for a company like Garmin to fail or not commit to fixing a bug like this one, especially when a lot of people complain on the forum

  • That was funnier than hell.  Hope Garmin comes through soon with a fix for the issues.  Again, in my opinion, a beautiful watch with a promising future if Garmin can resolve the issue.  Good luck buddy.

  • Tracy , another way is to switch on t,hen off Flight Mode ( same as doing the bluetooth ) or another way is to force stop the Golf App itself . The issue is so intermittent that you don't know if notifications are working till you see you have missed a text/call etc on your phone and the watch didn't notify !

Its been an issue for 6 months now , yet Garmin seem ignorant to their customers on fixing it , its the same old replies on here / phone support / twitter etc  with ...." we are working on it "  !!

    Grrrrrrrrrrrrrr !!

  • I have more to add. I think the turning on and off of Bluetooth masks the real problem. If I turn off and on Bluetooth then I get all notifications coming through on my phone. Yet my smart notifications in Garmin golf stipulate only a few apps should send notifications.  I think the turning off and on of Bluetooth kicks in before the Garmin golf app and the Garmin golf app smart notifications are not working at all.

  • bluetooth has nothing to do with phone notifications ?  texts , emails , calls etc come via data or wifi then the phone displays its own notification . Bluetooth just 'sends' the selected notifications you have chosen to your golf watch . This is where the problem lies . The app seems to 'lock out ' sending notifications to the watch when whenever the phone's bluetooth 'freezes' ??

No matter what we all think is the problem , 6 months and still no fix on a £500 device by Garmin software developing team , is a PATHETIC response by a worldwide company !!

  • I realise that the notifications on the phone are driven by data or WiFi but the mechanism to get them onto the watch is definitely Bluetooth. When turning Bluetooth off/on you break the connection with the watch. When turning it back on I think it ignores Garmin golf because of some sort of lag. Garmin golf then gets involved and causes the issues.

I agree though we need answers from Garmin. It simply isn't good enough.

  • Guys i will repeat. I don't think any of you play golf like 7/7 24/24 no ? it take like 10 secs to uninstall the golf app and reinstall it like 5 mins before your game. I know it's frustrating but i really love my AI Caddy and the watch is very nice. Anyway, you only need the golf app to check all your shoot and stats etc.

  • are you serious?
I use the watch on a daily basis, not only when I play golf and that is why I have the problem.
in all cases your speech is wrong because the clock must always work at 100% not that I have to install and uninstall the application every day in case I play golf every day ....

  • I don't understand your problem ? Me when the golf app is uninstall... i have no issue at all...
