Notifications have become intermittent. Is my watch defective?

Notifications have stopped working on my watch. I didn't realize until after I got an S60 how much I appreciate this feature! I have gone through the manual, powered off and restarted both my phone and watch several times, uninstalled and reinstalled the Garmin Connect app, nothing seems to be a complete fix. When I reinstall the app notifications may work for a short period. And occasionally they'll work but for the most part this function is no longer operable. Looking for anyone with similar experiences especially if there's a fix available. Have researched as best I can to no avail. Second question, something I really don't want to do if at all possible but what would be the worst case if I reset the watch entirely?

  • So riddle me this, why would anyone (Garmin included) want or need the golf app running in background if they aren't actively on the course?  What is the role/purpose of the golf app when NOT playing golf?  Seems to me whatever its doing should be a Garmin Connect or Garmin IQ thing, not a golf thing - UNLESS playing golf.

  • as was just said by Davans above.... when the golf app WASN'T installed , butr just had the Connect app = the watch and notifications were ok . Hence why it is unlikely the Connect app . It is likely something to do though with the Bluetooth and  the Golf app or maybe a conflict when being installed alongside the Connect app ?

  • Tim , like numerous other apps , they all generally are running in the background on the phone , even when not actively being used by the person . Some android versions though do put these apps 'to sleep'

  • I'm certainly aware of some apps running in the background on my Android device.  Most are needed for the functionality of the phone....location services for example.  I don't need a GOLF app running in the background consuming memory when I am not golfing.  Again, what is the purpose of the golf app running in the background.  What 'service' to garmin is it providing that can be moved to Garmin Connect?

  • Maybe the solution is to simply uninstall the golf app and reinstall it when golfing :). Nobody wants to be bothered by notifications while on the course anyways.

  • No the solution is to address and fix the problem - and others such as allowing S62 owners to modify smart replies on received notifications.  I have 3 Garmin apps on my phone:  Golf, Connect and Connect IQ.  I've heard references to Express but I have no idea what that is or what it does.  The only time I open golf is after a round to assess my game, look at my shots, fix shots I forgot to do a club selection on, etc.  I can certainly understand when I hit my red watch button to start a round of golf that it should in-turn initiate Garmin golf...at least I assume it triggers it.  However, if I am in my office or at home and miles from a course, why does it need to run?

  • agree ....be interesting if you get a response from Garmin .. but don't hold your breath !!  The issue is though , why does it appear to be blocking these notifications intermittently in the first place !!   A £500 watch that doesn't do as it says on the tin !!!

  • paying £500 and having to do this each time ? - no thank you !  A fix by Garmin is what is needed

  • I suppose happy faces at the end of comments don't really illustrate a tongue in cheek comment. Ahh well.

  • My apologies dude, I missed that and I wasn't screaming at you.  I knew you were being facetious however I was trying to illustrate to garmin folks that we're frustrated having spend $500 dollars on hard earned money and we expect more.  We expect things to work.  We expect the s62 to have the ability to customize and add smart replies like the less expensive watches, but we don't.  There should be something called a 'baseline' of apps that work across all watches and then there should be unique capabilities that are suited for a particular model.  Most importantly, we expect rigorous testing to be conducted before an update is pushed to ensure it works.  I'd be more than happy to be a tester for Garmin - hope you're listening Garmin.
