Notifications have become intermittent. Is my watch defective?

Notifications have stopped working on my watch. I didn't realize until after I got an S60 how much I appreciate this feature! I have gone through the manual, powered off and restarted both my phone and watch several times, uninstalled and reinstalled the Garmin Connect app, nothing seems to be a complete fix. When I reinstall the app notifications may work for a short period. And occasionally they'll work but for the most part this function is no longer operable. Looking for anyone with similar experiences especially if there's a fix available. Have researched as best I can to no avail. Second question, something I really don't want to do if at all possible but what would be the worst case if I reset the watch entirely?

  • I'm the guy who found that ForceStop on Android works! And I use an app called Push Notifications to verify it's stuck before I ForeceStop it.

I have 1.29.6 and smart notifications still stop going to the watch. When it's stuck like this, I check the watch /settings and it says the phone is connected. After the ForceStop the watch displays a bubble "Phone Connected" but that could be because the ForceStop drops the connection for an instant and reinitiates it.

The smart notifications start to fail if I walk away from the watch, aka disconnect, but not all the time which is making this difficult to isolate.

I'm happy to run tests to help figure it out. I love this watch too much.

  • On my S62 using Pixel 5 I did a factory reset after 1.29.6 and has been working fine since. PIA but worth fixing notifications

  • I had uninstalled 1.29.5 as the issue was still there, so reinstalled 1.29.6 and still the same problem (fixable with a force stop). Seriously not impressed, a £480 top of the range golf watch hobbled by its own app.

  • If you reset the watch, Settings / Reset / Erase Data and Reset Settings then it might work. I'm on day two since doing this and haven't had to Force Stop yet. I'm hopeful the new app version and the watch reset works.

  • Well that didn't take long for the Notifications to stop working again after factory reset and wasting time redoing setup again... WTF?

  • I just run the connect App and force close the golf app... and the notifications are back... for about 24 hours now... So... the problem is the Garmin golf app i think..

So force close the golf app... and dont open it ... you can use the garmin connect

  • That just worked...So my Golf watch can't be used for golfing if I want Notifications... good thing I went with the best SMH

  • I think the engineer work to fix that... i send all my spec to get an update. will see...

  • I've uninstalled 1.29.6 as I can't be bothered with the force stop thing any more (been having issues since November).  I've set a shortcut on my phone home screen to the web version of the golf stats, so at least I can view them.

  • I have the Garmin Approach S62 watch since last summer. I would not receive my message notifications after a period of time. Then,, after rebooting the device, I'd begin receiving notifications again I've now stopped receiving message notifications and nothing I do works. I've called ans spoke with a Garmin representative on Monday who did some troubleshooting with me; however, nothing worked. He then said that Garmin is soon coming out with an update to be performed via desktop computer, which should be available by June sometime. I'm greatly disappointed in this product, having highly anticipated its arrival before most folks subsequently had to wait for the backorder to be filled. One would think that a $400 dollar golf watch wouldn't have such widespread problems that are lasting, which is the case.
