Discussion thread for Plays Like Distance on Approach S60 (created April 22nd, 2025

Post from over two years ago that user's here in forums have been using to express recent concerns with Plays Like Distance on the Approach S60 has been closed, and this post has been created for any current discussions so information is relevant for the current maps and software versions the Approach S60 now uses.

    Add me to the list. Plays like distance stopped working with latest update. It also changed several of my settings which was a pain to go through and reset.

    Updated April 30th, 2025 - Software version 9.00 is 100% available:

    This has now been fixed with the new release of version 9.00 now released to 100% of Approach S60 users. 

    To receive the 9.00 update, your S60 needs to either be synced to the Garmin Connect mobile app, or connect your S60 to a computer with t he Garmin Express program installed. The 9.00 update is the software side of the fix for the recent concerns with PlaysLike Distance no longer working on the Approach S60 after updating course maps within March/April 2025. 

    Those that have not installed course map updates that have now installed the 9.00 update can install course map updates to the Approach S60 and PlaysLike Distance will work as expected.

    Those that installed course map updates in the past couple of months experiencing the PlaysLike Distance feature no longer working, must reinstall course maps for your specific region to fix PlaysLike following the steps outlined on support page linked here: Reinstalling Course Maps to an Approach Golf Product

    I still only get software version 8.9 available. 

    I have deleted the device from express and re-added it but it only installs 8.9.

    Version 9.00 is in the process of being rolled out to users and is currently released at 30% > The % will increase as time goes by. 

    There is not a specific timeframe as to when the % will increase further, but the increase will announce on the 9.00 update page linked in my last response notifying of the fix.

    I uploaded the new software and installed it and I am running 9.0. Everything works better however I still cannot bring up Playlike Distance. I understand that this feature is automatically featured and does not need anything to be turned on.  If that is not so please tell me where this feature lies. If I am right, this update has not solved the problem.

    You must reinstall course maps through Garmin Express per the step mentioned in my response. 

    After reinstalling, check on your watch opening Settings > System > About > Tap "SW Versions" scroll down the map list and the 5th section in the menu should now show CourseView DEM Worldwide version 25.10 right about "GPS Version".

    I updated to  9.0 by uploading the maps.  I have followed your suggestion shown above.  Here is what my System Menu shows for SW Versions:SW Verision 9.0, Course View Intermediate Americas 25.1,CourseView Int Europe,Mena, Africa & Oceana 25.10, CourseView Inyermediate Pacific 25.10, NONE,  GPS Version 4.5, Display Version 2.7. TSC Version 96.03, Sensor Version 6.1,Connect IQ 24.9.

    There is no CourseView DEM Worldwide version 25.10.

    Try reinstalling the region you need once again and then after installation tap the sync button in Express > Then close out of Express and if using Mac eject the watch before disconnecting. If using Windows PC, it may be best to close Express out to ensure the program is still not using the files on the watch reading it as connected.

    Garmin-Cody - I've tried that and it doesn't work. I'm waiting for version 9.0 but it doesn't seem to be available yet.
