I did a complete factory reset of the watch and it started to work again. You can google how to do that.
If you reset your watch to factory settings then set it up again it will work. Disconnect too from connect app then refund your watch. Loads on this forum had the same problem and this seems to fix it. Seems like a reset required after the recent major iOS upgrade on Apple.
