Garmin S50 not finding a course even when I have it on the garmin golf app

Hello,

I went to a golf course that I had been to a month prior with my Venue 2 Plus, which uses courses downloaded on the garmin connect app. The course was there.

Today, I went with my newly acquired Garmin Approach S50 and in the preloaded course, there was only the old version of the course (renovated a couple of years ago). I downloaded the updated course on the garmin golf app on top of it already being on garmin connect.

But it would not appear on my watch. I came home and downloaded Garmin express and updated the courses. So I guess I have 2 questions now, since I'm not sure if it worked.

1- Is there a way to use courses that are on my garmin Golf app (ios) so that if this happens again, I can just sync it from my watch ?

2- Is there a way to see a list of all courses on the watch ? Cause I may have updated correctly, but I can't tell since I'm not within GPS range of the course.

Thanks in advance !

  • You need to download it from Garmin Connect, not the golf app. I know it’s weird but that’s how it goes. So, from Connect you go to More, it’s on the bottom right, then scroll down until you find Download Golf Courses. Hope this helps.

  • I did, but still didn't appear on the watch.

But I went back to the same course and the update through Garmin Express worked.

    Thanks !

  • The Approach S50 has preloaded worldwide course mapping loaded directly on the watch. There is no way to download courses from any of the apps to the Approach S50, as this watch has all course maps loaded on the device and does not work in the same manner your Venu 2 Plus did for golf.

The S50 will only display courses nearby to your GPS location when near enough to the course you are wanting to play. You must not tap the skip option when the watch is located satellites and allow a full acquisition and the watch will then display the course you are at, as it will be the closest.

Since you must be near the course, outside, and acquiring satellites for the course to display...ensure you are not trying to find a golf course when away from the course.

Also ensure you are starting the round on the actual watch and not from the Garmin Golf app. The Garmin Golf app is not used to identify the course as nearby since the worldwide mapping is preloaded to your device, it must use GPS location to identify the course you want to play when you are there at the actual course.

If you continue to have concerns, please contact Garmin Support to speak to a Golf Specialist so they can ask further questions while you have the watch with you to identify further why you are not able to find the course you are attempting to play.

  • We also just released a software update for the Approach S50 (version 6.58) so also see if you continue to have the issue after confirming the update is installed to your Approach S50.
