S44 stopped detecting shots and software is up to date.

My S44 worked fine for about a month. It recently stopped detecting all my shots. Every now and then it will pick up a driver shot. Everything else is fine.

  • I've had nothing but trouble with my S44.  The latest issue mimics what you describe with a twist.  It only detected my driver on two holes and shot maps are rarely displayed.

    I've been on Garmin's chat to get advice at least four times, had the S44 replaced once under warranty, cleared caches, reset defaulrs, updated maps over and over, and am now on my final go with the watch.  Last night on a chat with a barely helpful person I was directed to a page and instructed to do a hard factory reset..  I deleted both Connect and Golf apps and reinstalled.  Deleted all bluetooth related apps and caches and reinstalled.  Deleted the S44 from my account and added it back.

    My problems started within the first few rounds back in February and are still ongoing.  If all the reset, reinstall, delete and clear don't fix the problem plagued malfunctioning poor operating piece of hardware I will toss it in a drawer and be done with it and will be Done with Garmin products for good.  I have been using an S20 for years without a hitch until the battery life became to short for 18 holes.  I think they pushed the S44 out before it was ready and expect buyers to be Beta testers.


  • I chatted with a Garmin rep and was told the software up date 6.17 will supposedly fix the missed shot issue. It's not yet available to me but it should be within a few days. We shall see.

  • My fingers are crossed, hoping Garmin gets the issue resolved with 6.17.

  • I have received the update 6.17 and I still have the issue, it does not detect the shots.

    It worked fine few weeks ago

  • The day before I received the update I played 9 holes and it detected all my shots. This was after it had stopped detecting shots for 2 weeks. I haven't played since the update so will see what happens. Who knows what is going on with this watch. It, for sure, has random bugs.

  • Shot Maps is hit and mostly miss ON the S44.

    It worked pefectcly on my Approach S20, but is basically a frustration feature on the S44.  I can not fathom why when someting works, the software guru's have to 'make it better' and turn it into a fail.

    I have the latest OS System Software (6.17) and it still is a fail.

    I am on my seccond S44, and even upgraded my phone think the phone might be the problem.  The problem definately is with the S44. A totally unprepared for release piece of hardware.  I've tried to get Garmin to refund my money, but since no one buys direct from them the answer is no.  And after trying now for abour 6 months to get the thing to work properly, it is too late to return to were I purchased. 

    Another replacement from Garmin and continue the frustration?  Toss in a drawer, cut my losses, and look at offerings from other golf watch companies?

    Does anyone at Garmin even look at the feedback on this forum and elswhwere on the Web?  

    My watch is registered, but regardless the complaints, no one from Garmin reaches out with advice.
