Multiple issues regarding green contours, plays-like and layup distances

Hi,

I am a new user with an approach s44 watch, CT1 club sensors and currently a garmin golf (free trial) subscriber. I am having all kinds of issues and it looks like I'm not the only one.

My first issue is with the premium maps and green contours not displaying for all courses, same as this issue here: https://forums.garmin.com/outdoor-recreation/golf/f/approach-s70/348887/approach-s70-graphics-issue

I am aware that the green contours are only available for certain courses but the premium maps should be every course. Currently a very intermittent issue and only works a third of the time.

The next issue i have is with the layup/hazard distances being shown as 0m and plays-like distances not being displayed at all. Same as this issue here: https://forums.garmin.com/outdoor-recreation/golf/f/approach-s50/406660/plays-like-distance-stopped-working

I have connected my watch to garmin express but there were no updates available so I'm left with a pretty unstable product that isn't worth the money or hassle.

Since my free trial ends in a couple of days, I have contacted garmin billing in the hopes that they can extend my free trial for another month until we can sort out these issues. Can you please action this immediately as I could not possibly contemplate handing over any more money for products that don't work.

I am happy with these products when they work but it needs to work every time. Please help!

  • Loading premium maps requires the Garmin Golf app to be running and actively synced to the Approach S44 before, while starting the round, and after the course has been selected on-screen. Allow the watch to fully acquire satellites, and I recommend having the Garmin Golf app open while starting the round, and visually confirm that the Profile > My Devices > Approach S44 is showing connected to confirm the watch is synced.

Once you select the course with the Golf app opened and synced, you should then see the prompt showing enhanced maps downloading. Once the download of the enhanced map is complete, you will then see the watch reload the course prompting you to select the tee box.

You must have a good cellular connection with the Garmin Golf app showing permissions for location access.

  • Hi Cody and thanks for your reply, even though I feel you did not address all of the issues in the original post.

I can confirm that my phone is in my pocket within close proximity to the watch, is running the garmin golf app and is fully connected and synced from within the app. I have given the garmin golf app full privileges and I never skip the GPS section when starting a round.

I've also tried multiple times to restart the round after restarting app/phone/watch in different orders every time but no luck with certain courses (1 of them being my home course). I can also confirm that I would have a good internet connection as I use it to stream music while on the course, works fine.

The last round that i played, i started the round with my watch and it prompted me that the premium maps were being downloaded as expected, It however did not prompt me to restart the round using the premium maps like its done at previous courses and like you've suggested. I waited about half an hour while I had breakfast but ultimately nothing happened. Like i said in the initial post though, this is an intermittent issue.

I sent an email to service on the 13th of April and then replied back to garmin billing on the 23rd of April before finding these forums and paying here on 25th of April. As my free trial has ended, I will not be paying $145 to experience these same issues. Please grant another month free trial so that I can confirm that all is working, then I will be happy to pay for the membership.

Failing that, I will be actively seeking a refund for the garmin watch and CT1 sensors. Please respond as soon as you can. Thanks.

  • My recommendation specified having the Garmin Golf app open on the screen of your smartphone visually confirming the sync and then keep the app open until you have confirmed the course download was received on the watch.

The watch must also stay connected to your phone throughout the round of golf. If the app stops running in the background or loses sync at some point through the round and does not re-sync...that is where you would see the issue of the feature no longer working later on in the round.

Contacting support directly would be recommended to speak with a Golf Specialist live to determine exactly what else could be causing your concern.
