Crazy putting speed?

Just bought GSPro today and connected it to my R50. Played Lofoten Links. Everything works good, but not the putting. Stimp was set to 10 and when I hit a 30 cm putt on a flat green it goes almost 4-5 meters..? Several times the same result. When I set the stimp to 6 it became a little better, but this is not good enough. Garmin have to solve this.

  • In this instance, your inquiry would not be supported from Garmin's end, as you would need to contact GSPro for support with the use of features through their platform

They may have some material to provide a putting stimp chart to get a better read on the putting mechanics when using GSPro, and I would recommend checking to see if their site offers that within their FAQ resources.

  • Thank you so much for your reply. And I stand corrected for being so quick to put the blame on Garmin if this is a GSPro issue.
After one week of testing the R50, I really enjoy it. I find it more realistic with regards to carry and total length compared to TrackMan which I find too kind with the lengths and spin. The instant slow speed camera is also a great thing - really impressive and informative!
    Thanks :-)

  • Make sure you are on the most recent update. There was an update which helped putting. I find GSPro is very accurate with putting after the update. 4.1 mph ball speed will travel 10 feet on a stimp of 10 on a flat green. This is the speed in which the ball rolls off the stimp meter device.

  • Thank you, really appreciate the feedback :-) I am at the beginner stage with regards to GSPro (just had it for a few days), and it seems to be looking for updates every time I turn it on, so this should be ok. With regards to the R50, I was prompted to do an update yesterday, which did, so I guess I am updated on both of them.
Do you use the R50 with GSPro, Wntrglf32?
And thanks for the info on mph ball speed, feet and stimp. This Sim golf world is getting more and more into science, research and development, and I love it!
Will do more testing tomorrow, thanks again.

  • I use GSPro and Awesome Golf.

On GSPro if you hit a putt at 4.1 mph it will travel about 3.3 yards roughly at 10 stimp. It’s not always perfect but very close. What you use for a hitting mat does affect what the R50 sees I believe. I use a fiber built mat and it’s not ideal for putting but it’s good enough. The ball skids a lot on Fiberbuilt mats when putting shorter putts.

I have yet been able to hit two putts in a row at 4.1 mph.

  • Did some more testing today. Since I am from Norway, I use the metric system on all stats, except for speed - where I use mph for the Sim golf.

I did lots of putts on flat greens, especially the 4 mph ball speed and found that this speed would make a 4,2/ 4,4 meter put (4,8/ 5,0 yards). Same with a 8 mph put would be about 8,5 meters (9,4 yards) on a flat green. Stimp was 10.
I still think it is a little too fast, but I also think you are right about the mat and skidding. Will do more testing on different mat types. Thanks again for info about both the surface and the numbers, Wntrglf32 - and a happy new year to you :-)

  • Happy New Year to you as well.

those are fast putts. More like 13 stimp. Something is off. Would be hard to play with that speed.

Have you practiced or played any holes on the Augusta course? Type in Georgia if you haven’t. You can place the ball on any green and practice putting. Some super crazy putts on those greens.

I tried 13 stimp. No thank youJoy

  • Actually I do not mind playing on fast greens. I have played superfast "concrete" greens live - especially in Scotland and Thailand - and I love the challenge here, just like the 13 stimp you mention - can be very frustrating at times - yes I know very well :-)
Thing is I want to have kind of a consistency and feel of the speed before entering a round of golf with my friends or online.
The first course I downloaded when I subscribed to GSPro a week ago was Lofoten Links, the second was Augusta. I know that Lofoten still is in the beta version, but it is ok for now. Greens are very tough. If I got the right version of Augusta like you mention, I am a little disappointed about the graphics, but the putting was very fast here, yes.
I would love if you could download "Stiklestad", test that course and give me feedback on the putting. It is my favorite course in Norway (and Europe) and the guy who made this have done a fantastic piece of work. It is spot on with regards to everything about that course. Outdoors I play on 9 hcp. I ended up with 91 strokes today. Putting was ok, but I had some trees and Viking graves in the way at times :-)
This is interesting: Like I said before, I think you have a point about the mat. But when I opened GSPro a few minutes ago to check things about the last round at Stiklestad I confirmed that the stimp was 10, but that you also have an option about the firmness of the greens...
My setting was "Links" and that seems to be on top of the list. If I recall correctly second is "Hard", then "Firm", "Normal" and "Soft". I will check these out next time. Maybe the answer lies here.. Maybe soft greens will be the answer?

To be contiuned :-) Look forward to your feedback, and sorry about the long text, but I find this very interesting. Thanks for keeping up with me :-)

  • Lofoten looks amazing. I don’t think I can download yet. I will try and download the other course and let you know.

  • Downloaded Stiklestad. Unfortunately I can’t take full swings now. Strained left forearm. Went into practice and hit some on the first 3 holes. Nice elevation changes and I bet the views are amazing. Hole one had the pin right front behind that tree which was fun to navigate.

4.1 mph went 10’ roughly so it seems accurate to me. I went to the downhill second hole and found a good flat spot and played 8 and 10 stimp. 10 on any course is fast and 13 is lightning and out of control most times.

Tekbud does a good job with his courses! The closest course to me is Lahontan. Private course so I haven’t played it.
