Garmin Approach R50: No descent angle ?

Just wondering why Garmin does not provide descent angle metrics for the R50. This is a common metric which even cheaper LM’s provide

  • At this time all of the metrics provided by the R50 are outlined on our support page linked here: Swing Metrics Displayed on My Approach R50

The descent angle is displayed on the shot line graphic when viewing the ball flight curve horizontally after the apex height has been reached, and apex height is provided as a swing metric...however, "decent angle" is not a swing metric displayed on the Approach R50.

  • I agree.  This is why I get hung up on launch angle, backspin, and peak height.  Decent angle is a crucial metric to help determine stopping power coming into the green.  I hope it is something that can be added with a software update.

  • Awesome Golf has descent angle with the R50 so just maybe Garmin could add this.

  • Should be an easy fix, I agree. Thanks for sharing. Wasn’t aware Awesome Golf already had this data point.

  • @Cody, could you raise a ticket to integrate descent angle data iin future software update ? Thanks

  • Please add it to the list of data metrics that can be displayed on the screen. It is one of the most important factors when looking at irons, especially during a fitting.

  • I think they banked on people using Awesome Golf  for fittings.

  • I would like to see descent angle added.

Also, I know it is not foolproof but I would like to see the red/green optimizer-like codes displayed on screen and in the app for relevant shot metrics similar to those that are available on SkyTrak.

  • Descent angle is one of only ~3 metrics that I care about. I can not buy this without it.

So you are saying decent angle is displayed but not recorded?
"on the shot line graphic when viewing the ball flight curve horizontally after the apex height has been reached"
Does that mean when you hit, you set it up to display the shot line graphic, then you can see the decent angle, and write it down to record it?

The fact it can be displayed and works in 3rd party software means it can be added with a software update. Please pass on our suggestions to add it, its the difference between me buying this and not.

  • The line that displays when viewed from the side during Home Tee Hero if you tap the "Replay" option on the window the briefly displays after a shot is simply a view offered to get a better idea of the ball flight to where it landed on the virtual 3D course map. Although the angle is displayed graphically...it is a reflection of the simulation game to show your shot line on the rendered map.

The "Descent Angle" metric advertised as being offered on other launch monitor brands is not at the price point comparable to the Approach R50. The one option I could find online for less than $4,999 MSRP lacked many of the features both hardware and software available at a great value on the Approach R50. The majority of other launch monitors offering decent angle are double the cost, or more on average.

The Approach R50 has not been advertised, nor specified as offering descent angle as a metric...however, this request has been forwarded for further review and consideration. There is no guarantee this metric will be offered...but if it does become available we'll let you know.
