R50 + GSPro -> Frequent Disconnects

(I'm starting a new thread for this issue. There's some discussion of it in a putting thread but it deserves it's own thread.)

A number of us are having issues while using the connector for the R50 and GSPro. We'll start a round and it will drop the connection after a variable number of shots. It can be reconnected by restarting the GSPro connection on the R50 but this takes a while and it may just drop the connection again.

I've played many rounds like this and invariably the R50 drops the connection at least a couple of times during the round.

Nobody has diagnosed what could be causing the issue.

It would be great if we could hard-wire the R50 to the computer for the GSPro connection.

Hopefully Garmin will be able to fix this in a future update. Right now, this seriously hampers the playing experience.

  • Did you get it to stop disconnecting?

I have the same computer specs. Solid!

I had the same issues in the beginning but it’s been really good the last couple months.

  • Haven't had the opportunity to try yet. Working on adjusting enclosure size and also had to take some clubs in for repair. Should know more over next couple weeks.

  • I simply cannot get my r50 to connect to use consistently with GSPro.  Only if I start hotspot, load GSPro then shut off wifi on r50 and restart hotspot will it connect. Then it does for a max 3-4 strokes before disconnecting again. Running latest software on R50 and latest GSPro.

Garmin support effectively washed their hands of supporting me with GSPro.

  • Not sure exactly what update it was, but I've had much better connection stability between the R50 and GSPro over last 1-2 months. Also, it seems that the wake commands on the GSPro LM overlay are working now. So, even though I still get R50 disconnects (seems like it mainly happens during putting), the wake sommand for putter mode seems to wake the LM and connect to GSPro cosistently.

  • Doublecheck that your R50 and GSPro are running latest versions. When you launch GSPro, check the box for Force Download Latest Version.

Also, you are keeping the LM Overlay window open and running in the back ground, correct?

    These are steps I follow:

    1. Turn off auto connect for your home WiFi network on your PC. You don't want your PC hosting GSPro connecting to your home WiFi.

    2. Turn on auto connect for the ApproachR50 connection on your PC. Once your R50 is broadcasting the HotSpot signal, you want your PC to connect to it. This is how you want your GSPro PC connecting to the internet.

    3. Now, turn on R50. Connect it to home WiFi network.

    4. Once connected, launch GSPro module on the R50. You should see "Waiting for GSPro" on the R50. This is when your R50 will actually begin broadcasting the HotSpot signal.

    5. On your PC, launch GSPro, Force Download latest version (only need to do this when troubleshooting; otherwise, leave unchecked).

    6. If prompted, select R50 as the LM.

    7. GSPro software should load. GSPro LM overlay should load. R50 should be looking for a ball.

    8. I recommend launching the driving range during troubleshooting and confirming that the R50 will detect a ball (green light), will look for a ball (red light), and will detect ball movement if you reposition the ball.

    9. If the R50 disconnects (no red or green light), go to the LM overlay window and use one of the wake buttons to send a wake signal to the R50. If you are running the latest versions on both, the wake signals should wake the R50 and restore the connection.

Report back what you find and I'd be happy to help.

  • Thanks for replying. Have tried these steps. Forced re-download of  GSPro 3.1.6.2. R50 shows up to date software. Still no luck.

still get stuck on looking for Garmin. One thing I’ll note is that when the Connector window opens (v1.8.8 ) there are boxes below path and face to target that initially appear and then disappear.

Previously, the only way I’ve been able to get it to change from Looking for Garmin to Attempting to connect is by exiting R50 Connect, turning off R50 wifi and then relaunching hotspot. But then it’ll stay connected 2-3 shots before disconnecting.

does your connector window v1.8.8 look the same?
