Garmin R50 - club data and distances.

I got my R50 yesterday and my club head speed seems to be about 20 mph off with each club? Is there any way of calibrating the device or is it possible it’s picking up interference of some kind. Can’t get my 8 iron to go more than 100 yards for example. Normally a 140/45 club on track man or GC quad.

  • Yea mine is 15 percent off or more I average 318 on my gps 18 birdies. Also hit on a gcquad club speed 130. This 110 max. I hit my pw 150-160 this 130 and that if I really give her the nuts. The weekly tournament is even worse I have the elevation jacked all the way up and it’s still way off. I know it’s a simple calculation fix. They definitely need to get on it.

  • Is there anyway you can post a video of GCQuad numbers then the R50 numbers?

Joe Lagowski did this and his numbers pretty much matched very closely.

Looking for video of major discrepancies between quad or Trackman 4 but nothing has popped up.

  • Purchased two days ago and distances are very short.  Normal PW is 130-135 yds and cannot get it over 105 yds on the R50.  6i carry distance should be approximately 180 yds but will not exceed 135 yds on this unit.  Have tried additional lighting, adjusting the distance to the net, and marking the golf ball... nothing is working.  I really want this to work...help please!

  • Did you get it working correctly?  I am having same issue, currently

  • I changed the elevation to 3,900 and it put my distances dead on. It will occasionally revert back to 0 elevation and I have to change it back. As long as I keep it there I have no problems.

  • Are you playing at sea level and had to change it to 3900?

I play at 4500 and it is spot on when using Awesome Golf and about a club lower when using Garmin range. I will set the R50 to 6000’ and see if it matches Awesome golf.

  • I'm at 633 ft Elevation in Alabama. So that's a pretty drastic difference to have to change it to 3900. I have a couple of folks that play with me and it puts them at their correct yardage also. I just played around with it till I got it at the correct yardage.

  • Just downloaded the new update and tried the range again and it seems that the distances are still off. Anyone have the distances fixed with the new update?

  • This latest updates includes improvements to the consistency of club metric measurements, and improvements to the gameplay physics in Home Tee hero mode.

Reports from users stating that they feel the distance is incorrect have been investigated extensively by Garmin and we have not identified any concerns resulting in the Approach R50 operating outside of expected.

If you feel the carry distance or total distance metrics are not showing correctly for a shot, you should contact Garmin Support. Actual relevant information will be gathered from you, from actual sessions per your claims...and your information will be reviewed and you will be provided information as to why the metrics are showing what they are showing.

Every person has a different swing, consistency, and use-case relevant to determining the metrics displayed on the Approach R50. We are confident in the accuracy of the design for how the R50 is providing the metrics advertised with the unit.
