Garmin R50 Accuracy

Hello Garmin Team,

do you have a specification document on the accuracy of the R50.
I woudl be interested which deviations in degrees we have to expect for club data as well as the deviation for ball data.

Thank you!

  • The information we outline on the site is directly relevant to using the device as intended, designed, and advertised. Following the instructions and steps outlined by Garmin will help to ensure the best experience with the R50.

The previous comment on this post did not make mention of the R10, or any other manufacturer's products...nor the accuracy of any other products. My verified response above contains linked paths to the information referenceable that we publish on our site for those with accuracy concerns to reference if they have not already.

There were also instructions to contact Garmin Support, or to direct message me here in forums for further assistance if concerns continue after reviewing the info linked on the support pages in my previous response...then more info can be discussed with you by a Garmin golf product expert, to sufficiently address the concern.

A paragraph or two mentioning accuracy concerns provides me a generalized understanding of you accuracy concerns...and more specific information would to be discussed to further determine why you are seeing the metrics you are concerned with. The answers you are wanting regarding the concern can be sufficiently addressed at that point.

I will be reaching out to regarding some account specific information that I cannot discuss here in the public threads due to our privacy policy. Please keep an eye out for my direct message in the upper right section of the forums site where the message icon is located.

    - Thank you

  • Spot on with the last comment.
I’ve a Truestrike mat and I bought an extra section so my device could sit exactly level. I bought a pin spotlight also. Tried more lifting, less lighting etc..

I can’t get my unit to read accurately.

  • Let's put it this way it's miles off!!!!

Garmin should be ashamed of themselves, especially with the reply that you have sent, we are not stupid, most people that will be buying this unit are upgrading so they know how these things should be set up.

A machine you make the R10 is showing correct direction and distance, the R50 is showing all shots going 20 yards left and 20 yards short with a PW and 40-50 yards short with Driver. What additional information do you need?

It's in a professionally made golf studio, with correct lighting, correct matt laying(all Level) and correct distances from the screen and the unit.

In your opinion what am I doing wrong?

Oh yeah sorry, I trusted a company that is charging a fortune for a unit that obviously hasn't been tested properly or there are quality issues.

Maybe Garmin should check the accuracy of each unit before it ships, especially for 5000 dollars!!!!

  • I had the same issue.  I called and they wanted me to move the hitting mat further away from the impact screen.  Now, the distance between where I strike the ball to the impact screen is between 9 and 10 feet away.  Before, the distance was just under 8 feet.  This improved the readings.

The apex height has increased to almost normal and the carry distances improved by 10 yards, so now I''m only about a half club short which is fine.  Before I moved the mat further away I was only hitting my PW around 55 feet high.  Now it is going 80-90 feet high which is close to readings I get on other devices.

  • Got my R50 a few days ago, got to try it in a (new) trackman simulator today. Very very happy with the results, within a few yards, (carry) bigger variation on the total length. small difference on the spin rate, Also very close to my actual distances on the course.  56 - not even close on any parameters.  But in total very happy with th R50 - and especially since I am sure we are going to get a lot of updates on the software.

  • I didn’t think distance to the impact screen would matter for a photometric unit. I’m a bit tight for space which is why I went for the photometric system. The unit only picks up the frames as the ball passes??

  • Who did you call and told you that you needed more space to a net or screen with a 3 camera system? I’m going to hit some at 5’ then 9’ and see what changes. I know the R10 has issues with this but I will be shocked if the R50 does too. The R10 is nowhere near as accurate. Spin axis is miles off on R10.

  • How far in front of you does a camera system like the r50 capture? I figured can’t be much more than a foot or two right?

  • Have you tried doing the alignment? I was having issues with it going left until I set the alignment of the unit in settings. Only issue I'm having now are spin rates on my wedges are about 5000rpm low

  • I know when I putt it picks up speed and launch within 2’. It is very quick.

I will test a few other things but I need someone standing there watching the R50 screen to see how fast the numbers pop up.
