Garmin R50 Accuracy

Hello Garmin Team,

do you have a specification document on the accuracy of the R50.
I woudl be interested which deviations in degrees we have to expect for club data as well as the deviation for ball data.

Thank you!

  • They rang at 10.30am saying that im the first one to bring this up? Really?

I have issues with my mevo+ charging and also with the pc they supplied in June as well, so they have 3 things the sort out. Let's see if they indeed pick up tomorrow? They said they were going to test it along side their one and see what the problem is. Well that's fine but I would prefer a new tested unit than having my one torn apart and try to fix a problem, surely they should supply new units that have been tested so they are correct, and then collect the bad ones and sort them out all at once, I reckon it's a bad batch or something is wrong with one of the cameras or computer in the unit

  • I’ll be ringing them first thing in the morning myself. This will be my third call and I’ve already sent an email.

  • I got in touch with them through the live chat on the website.

  • I've noticed the exact same on my garmin r50 it's about 12 to 15 yards shorter with every club and my swing speed is off a good 10mph with driver I have my altitude adjusted correctly humidity etc I really hope they can fix this i like the unit besides it's being off a good 12% on swing speeds and carry distance  5k is alot to pay for something that's not super accurate imo hopefully garmin can tell us something if it's the unit itself I'd like to swap for a accurate one atleast

  • Yes i agree, as for other monitors I have tested the r10, rapsodo, and mevo plus, all were within 2 yrds and club metrics basically all the same, but you need something to send the data to. Personally using all 3 the best quality is the mevo plus, but ease of use both the r10 and rapsodo are easy to transport and can be used with your phone or tablet.

It's seems there is either a bug or a major problem. Im wondering if the update that it did once I got it has corrupted the data being used by the machine? It woukd be interesting to see if without the update it's accurate ? Hopefully someone will let us know, mine is being picked up today to see what is the problem

  • And what was their reply?

  • What temperature and altitude is the R50 showing?

I set mine to current conditions last night and it was 40 degrees at the time. 6 to 7 yards lower with a gap wedge compared to setting it to 85 degrees. Apex height and spin is lower too.

  • If you have not already, please review the general info as outlined below:

    • In your setup environment, ensure that all of the suggestions for setup are being followed per Tips for Approach R50 Placement
    • Ensure the suggestions outlined on the site per Tips for Improving the Launch Monitor's Accuracy on the R50 web manual are considered for your next session.
    • If you continue to have concerns, Garmin Support would need to gather additional info from you to get more data from the shots you are concerned with to further assess the metrics showing on the shots you are concerned with.

Feel free to also send my a direct message if further assistance is needed, and I can get some specific additional information from you as well.

  • Really? so are you saying that the r10 which you make, the rapsodo and the mevo + are all giving the wrong readings compared to the R50?

So there others on here with the same problem as me, so all of us are setting the machine up wrong are we. All other monitors that I used are in the same room , same temperature and same light. So these other monitors range from £500 to 2K and the R50 is £4300.00!!!! So for it to work correctly it has to be pampered does it? So when I took it to the range and it was still miles off compared to the shots that I was hitting, does that mean that on that day the R50 didn't like the sunlight?  Or can it only be used on overcast days when the temp and sunlight is correct?. I'm sorry why can't you just say, "I'm really sorry it looks like there is something wrong with some of our machines and we will do the best to sort these out for our customers"? Instead of coming up with stupid excuses? Maybe you should make sure that the machines that come out of the factory are tested for accuracy in stead of coming up with lame excuses? Very very poor customer relations I think.

Wait until a more mainstream user on Youtube gets a bad one and then pops it new and fix them, simple easy and on a review that goes across the world, then you will have a bigger problem because people will start to avoid this product. Please just be honest and recall the bad ones and fix them, simple easy and honest!!!

  • I agree man I know I'm not settings up my machine wrong it's indoors with perfectly good lighting and level on my mat my mat is 4x9 I paid 1000 dollars for said matt just so I could make sure that the unit was perfectly inline and level when I was hitting balls  for that price I would expect it to be within 2 4 yards of exact distances and atleast with in 2 or 3 mph on swing speeds  not off by 10 they need to fix these units or give replacements or atleast acknowledge the problems and work on some kind of fix
