Garmin r10 not reading past 150yds in indoor garage.

am playing in a garage and I can’t for the life of me get a driver to read. Let alone an iron to reach 150yds or higher on the garmin driving range! My distances are 6.5ft r10 to ball, 10ft ball to net. Pictures attached, any help would be appreciated and don’t mind the mess I rushed a setup so I could play as fast as possible this week before I leave on vacation. Have not tested it out on the driving range. But these past couple of days I’ve been using it and my 6 iron regular I can hit like 150-190 and I feel like when I flush a good shot it goes red for a second then goes back to green and doesn’t read. But if I pitching wedge which my regular is like 100-130 it reads it perfectly fine! Any help or answers would be appreciated.

  • Hello, i'm curious as i have similar issue.  I don't have my impact screen yet, but do hit into a net (tent like thing) from Amazon currently.  Can you advise what the device is recording your swing speeds as?  I've got to jump out of my shoes for it to get to or slightly above 60mph.  When i do any research on swing speed + launch angle, the distance from Garmin seems to be about that math - my assumption is all my issues stem from inaccurate swing speeds (or swing speeds being captured too low).

  • What is the measured ball speed?

Sometimes the unit misreads club speed, but ball speed is very accurate.

What is Your normal swing speed on range and on course driver length?

I'm almost 60 yrs, and I am normally at around 90 mph with driver, and I would struggle more to swing below 80 than above.

Definately appears to be something wrong.

  • Hey Odd Tore, just picked a couple of examples - I had a gap wedge at 47mph swing and a ball speed that matched (def seems wrong) it also only showed 6yds apex height (def low). Another 9iron shot was 60 swing and 74 ball with 11yds apex height.  I have leveled (use a stand off eBay).  Im guessing have a few things going on.
I def do not claim to be a hard hitter but everything is much lower than a typical day at range.  Newer to game so don’t have much to compare to (real numbers taken).  Will get that done next time out and will see.  Assume there will be some deltas in what I think I am vs what I really am, but not to this degree.
thanks for taking time to respond and hope you have wonderful day!

  • Ok.

Since You're new to the game it's really difficult to say for sure if it some interference to the unit, or actually Your swing.

I started with golf a couple of years ago, and believe me, the difference from then and now is substantial..

When starting I could hardly hit a pw 70 yds on the pitch and put course, now I swing slow with my 60 deg lob wedge.

You should go to the range to make sure of Your swing speed and distances with different clubs, and then compare to indoor.

You may be fooled by that also, because we all have a tendency to swing slower indoor, but not necessarily a big difference.
