Garmin r10 not reading past 150yds in indoor garage.

am playing in a garage and I can’t for the life of me get a driver to read. Let alone an iron to reach 150yds or higher on the garmin driving range! My distances are 6.5ft r10 to ball, 10ft ball to net. Pictures attached, any help would be appreciated and don’t mind the mess I rushed a setup so I could play as fast as possible this week before I leave on vacation. Have not tested it out on the driving range. But these past couple of days I’ve been using it and my 6 iron regular I can hit like 150-190 and I feel like when I flush a good shot it goes red for a second then goes back to green and doesn’t read. But if I pitching wedge which my regular is like 100-130 it reads it perfectly fine! Any help or answers would be appreciated.

  • Cover the cement with carpet/turf or rubber. Cement will create issues. Get an impact screen instead of a net. The way net catches with radar unit will mess up readings as well.

  • Thanks I did not know cement was an issue! And it is high probability what it comes down to is the net aswell, which literally sucks cause on Amazon it’s literally the recommended one for the garmin. I was fidgeting with the net thinking it could be the net by making it more flat but I still couldn’t get any reads from driver or past 150. So hopefully and impact screen or testing on the range will show the garmin is not faulty.

  • If there is metal behind the net, that might affect the R10.  I hung an old cotton blend double sheet behind my net. I also contacted Garmin support & they recommended I cover my concrete floor from the R10 to the net & to make sure the sheet was not silk.

  • I had the same problem & contacted Garmin.  They recommended covering the concrete floor from the R10 to the net.  I have 2 cheap 8x6 outdoor carpets & also covered a foot on each side of the carpet from the hitting mat to the net. Instead of an impact screen, I draped an old double sheet on the back of my net. Garmin said to make sure it wasn't made of silk. Mine is an old cotton/polyester blend.  If any of the cabinets behind your net are metal, that may also be causing some problems.

  • Interesting, did it correct your issue? If so I might have to do that as-well. Thanks for the recommendation!

  • Yes.  Garmin also mentioned not to use florescent lighting which I didn't & to make sure there were no metal objects on nearby walls. I don't know if having the wall so close to the R10 is an issue.  If you contact Garmin support they will ask for photos of your garage area and see if there are any issues with your setup setup. I still have to customize my climate settings to get accurate distance numbers though (6,000 ft, 25%, 75F). I also have a net like yours. Mine is 7ft high & sags in the middle. Instead of buying a new taller net, I duct taped a 2 ft curtain rod to each post & added some netting to the top & also added netting to each side. It helps with the mishits :).

  • Okay so I experimented and basically now I have a golf SIM, I attached a grey cotton blanket tight and it doesn’t let balls move it or go through. Still to no avail I couldn’t get passed 150yds or reading drives. However one time i turned off the light and turned on my projector to at least enjoy a poor man’s SIM and hit on a par 3 course. Before I went on to the par 3 course I went to the range I hit the driver and it read 165 and I was excited and thought maybe the light did it but after that it didn’t read anymore again.  But I don’t think the garmin itself is defective as it did read a 165 hit once. it has to be something in the setup. Anymore suggestions via the pictures?

  • I really don't know.  May want to cover up more of the concrete area in front of the R10.  I've read that heaters and electrical devices can interfere with the R10. My garage is unheated, but I have a small portable heater that I use to warm up the garage, but turn off when playing.

  • Are the feet of the R10 level with your hitting mat? Is the R10 level (garage floors slope)? Did you calibrate the R10 after making sure it was level before playing?

  • Yes to all, everything’s level I have a box level with the turf and I calibrate every time I start the app. But to no avail. Yeah I know about the interferences but I don’t think it would just be 150yds and over that would be affected I feel if it was interference it would effect all shots. I’m going on vacation next week so hopefully when I go to the range I’ll get to test it out there and stop see if there is a problem.
