4 Club Difference in Distance

Hello All,

This is day 2 of owning a brand new R10. After months of anticipation and high hopes, I'm pretty disappointed.

All of my clubs are 20-60 yards short. I am outdoors hitting into a large net. I've moved the unit forward, back, up, down, tilted down, and titled up (Re-Calibrating after each significant change). I've also moved the hitting mat, removed the hitting mat, and finally moved the net without any success. I updated to 4.0 via Garmin Express but made no difference. I tried Home Tee Hero and the E6 driving range as well but the inaccurate readings continued.

What else can be done on my end? I really want to make this work and believe it is user error but as the hours of experimentation/frustration go by, I'm thinking it's a dud unit.

I understand taking it to the range is an option but I bought it for the backyard so that seems rather futile.

Appreciate any and all suggestions!

  • Just tried E6 with the elevation change. Seems like 4000-6000 elevation is the sweet spot for "course like" distances that I'm use to.

  • Yep thats what I've been using. I have the monthly sub for HTH cause its wayyyy cheaper than the other sims. But the distance shortage issues are making me want to cancel. Its getting really annoying.

  • Agreed. HTH is unplayable if you have to club up 2-4 to compensate. Luckily, I have played enough to know my stock yardages for each club and know for a fact my 5 iron is not going the distance of my 8/9 iron. I feel sorry for those either just beginning or getting back in to golf. Their work on the R10 will not translate to the course. I can't speak to the spin rates, but my club and ball speeds seems to be pretty spot on. You'd think they could easily tweak the numbers or even give us the option to do so. I contacted support, and the rep said they have been able to solve a bunch of individual issues and this is not a widespread problem. I'm optimistic but that means I have a bad unit or he was vastly underestimating or unaware the number of users with this issue. I'm under the impression the majority of the units are well short in HTH

  • Same here. I know my clubs, but so frustrating that Garmin won't acknowledge it as an issue for people hitting into a net. I posted a separate thread "WHY IS GARMIN OGNORING ALL OUR COMCERNS ...". I got the usual stock response from Garmin-Rob and the thread was closed immediately after. So clearly the issue is not being taken seriously. Hopefully the manual option to increase distance will be added at some stage. E6 is not an option for me as I have no iOS device.

  • It HAS to be the net causing these issues. I've tried everything. Even saw the notes about concrete floors and went out and purchased matte black foam tiles did the whole basement area.  Zero difference. Did 8,9,10,12 feet distance from net to ball nothing.

Did the outdoor range today with it. Measurements bang on.

Get IOS E6 is worth it. Maybe borrow someone's and test it out. I bought the cheapest ipad 9. Works amazing.

  • Agreed 100%. I just don't understand why this isn't being accepted as a SPECIFIC issue needing addressed and an option added to allow for it. It beggars belief really. I will check iPad 9 cost but I really like HTH and it's gaggle of courses. It's a real shame that it's pretty unplayable Frowning2

  • Agreed and HTH is WAY cheaper than the other Sims. I love playing the local courses around my area that I play in real life to practice. Even though the graphics look like an early Nintendo Wii game. E6 looks very impressive but its $300US a year for 27 courses......

  • So last night I joined the R10 Facebook group and I saw someone mention distances going from spot on to 20-30 yards off. Another user suggested deleting then reinstalling the app. I just tried and although it didn't fix it, it did seem to help a little. Clubs are still off but not as bad as the first few days. I also ordered a second 10ft net to put above my current one. Going to install that tonight. Should be able to back up another few feet to give the R10 more time to read. I know the distances are still going to be 2-3 clubs short but hopefully this gets closer to spot on.

  • I've installed Garmin app on 3 diff devices no changes. 2 IOS and one Android. I'll join the fb group!

  • 3rd day with the Garmin R10, 2nd day using it. Day one set up a net and R10, found distances were coming up short, but stats / shot shape “felt” realistic.  Played the following day and it just put my mind to rest that the unit was out - I’m not a big hitter (I go very high), but was hitting my 7-iron from a fair distance behind the 150yrd maker to back of green on a couple of occasions (so 160 carry/ 170 roll). R10 has me down as a 125yrd carry average! Went back on R10 today… still getting similar readings. Even when I felt I crushed it getting 135/140. A good 20+yards off. Tried E6 golf and Awesome Golf. All are giving similar readings (E6 marginally better). Tried a 4hybrid, stats are even worse that’s the 7-iron. Updated to Software version 4/ calibrated machine/ played with unit and net distance. Not impressed at all.
