R10 Approach Connection Issues - Entering Standby Mode or Searching for Connection

Hello,
I am having a problem where my Garmin R10 Approach is not working correctly when in the golf sim apps. I can connect the device to my phone (LG V30) and within Garmin Golf app the device is visible (e.g. can see battery status etc.), however when I go into the driving range or home tee hero, the device blinks white, (indicating standby mode), sometimes blinks blue (indicated its searching to connect), and every now and then will flash green and work, but for only a few shots before reverting to standby mode, or searching to connect mode.
The unit worked fine for about 25 minutes of use when I initially received it and got it up and running, before reverting to standby mode in the middle of the driving range session, and subsequently has had the issues as described at the beginning of the question.
I have tried restarting the app, forgetting and re-adding the R10 device, reinstalling Garmin Golf app, restarting Bluetooth, however I am still experiencing this issue.
I have tried the device with my partners phone, and it appeared to work without issue.
Can anyone offer advice on how to resolve this issue?
Thanks

  • Still having this connection issue, have updated to 3.9 and the first 18 swings were recorded, then the dreaded white flashing light returned and I'm back to square one. Any ideas? Currently indoor set up, the issue started when I turned on the lights as it was getting dark outside, but I tried again with them back off and no joy. Hope to try outdoors at the range tomorrow, but the whole reason I got the device was for an indoor set up.

  • I had the same issue initially after update. Contacted Garmin, held power button for a full 45 seconds, LED went through a lightning sequence, cant remember exactly but it flashed a yellow light which was new. Workes great afterwards.

    Other items I've discovered:

    • Hitting inside, into net, make sure you are setup at least 8ft from the net or shot wont read.
    • I put my device on a small stool (maybe 18 inches off ground), has given me best  results.
    • I calibrate my device in the app before every session, sometimes during session for best results
    • Had a friend over playing, wont read shots if someone is standing next to the device.

I played for hours yesterday having performed everything above with 0 issues!

  • I have the same issue. iPhone shows R10 is connected but the app doesn't. Currently a very expensive brick

  • Hi Schaeferad

Have you upgraded your R10 to v3.9? Myself and numerous others had issues with our devices right out of the box where the unit went solid green during the backswing, then it went into sleep mode. V3.9 fixed this problem for me and many others.

  • Thanks for the quick response. Sadly no. App diagnostics has GSC as 3.9. When I re-instaleld everything it seemd to be ok for a couple of minutes but was 'sync'ing and now says "We are having problems talking to Garmin Connect server. Try again." and won't add the device. Disappointed

  • Hi Schaeferad,

how you have connected the device to your cell phone? First time I did the mistake by pairing the R10 via the cell phone bluetooth function and faced later on problems. After I connected the R10 via the garmin golf app (only there) the issue was solved (prior new pairing activities I deleted the R10 at the cell phone and re-installed the golf app as well as garmin connect also). If the R10 is propperly connected you can see at the golf app und devices the charging status of the battery.

  • What an amazing forum. So much help and so quick.

I am still having problems and have to return it tomorrow.

I believe I have the R10 connected to my phone, it shows the green flashing light and when I play a shot it goes solid green however it doesn't show a shot in my phone. I have also tried my ipad and have exactly the same problem. See pictures below. It feels like the software wants to connect to Garmin and it can't which then stops everything else.

The only thing that doesn't feel right is that it consistently is trying to 'sync' every once in a while it disconnects, reconnects and then keeps trying to sync. The app doesn't like it when I turn all data off, I had assumed the range mode could be used offline but this doesn't appear to be true. everything is set up to be on in the app

  • I have the same issue. I found that if I use cellular data, I have no issues. If I use wifi I get the issue. Maybe this info will help Garmin.

  • I have the same issue. It seems to only happen on wifi. On cellular data, everything seems fine. With that said, I can't play E6 or connect to my projector without wifi. I think a corded option would be good. Just allow a connection via USB. That would be cool

  • Hi. I am having the same problem. R10 is connected to the iPhone but the light remains flashing white. I get prompted on the app to wake from sleep but it does nothing. R10 remains in standby.  Any help or ideas?
