Feature Request: Clubhead MPH without ball impact

Swing speed training is becoming commonplace, but owners of launch monitors must sometimes also buy a PRGR because they want swing speed measured without hitting balls with training sticks.

Could we have a 'swing training mode' where club head speed is measured without a ball being struck?

  • At this point it would at least behelpful if Garmin just said to forget it, it's not going to happen. I'm really trying to NOT spend more money on a separate device for a feature that the R10 should support.

  • Add my name to this please.

Want to start speed training in the next couple of months and was shocked this wasn't already a feature.

  • Please add my name the list of folks that would like see a software update to the R10 to measure Swing Speed without hitting a ball to some training mode of the Garmin Golf App.

  • Hello! I’d like to know if Garmin will take action regarding this request or they’re just letting the time pass until they release a new model at some point. As end users we would like you to be honest with us and to know if we are just waiting for nothing. You have a good product but it requires some upgrades and we cannot live on promises. Thanks

  • Yeah, I started this thread over a year ago. I was hopeful because the G80 did not initially have this ability, but later did.

This would also help the R10 compared to the upcoming MLM 2 Pro.

RCT ball support was clearly the better thing to work on first, but this is the most-requested feature on this forum, except for distance complaints. If Garmin *isn't* doing anything on this, it would be nice to know so we se stop asking.

  • Hi everyone! Regarding implementing the swing speed feature...as you know, we are always working to improve user experience with our products, and we may at some point, offer new features/updates with the R10 to improve swing experience. At this time. we do not have any new announcements specific to adding new features to swing speed metrics. Our team is looking further into this feature request, and we will keep you all updated as further announcements are made available to keep you all in the loop.

Going forward, please continue to express interest to this and other features...the comments and posts help, and we appreciate your efforts very much!

  • My 3 most important features (in preferred order):

    1. A working app, also working on Android tablets. 2.10.1 is actually working for me, 2.11.1 is not.

    2. A possibility to increase ball speed individually for each club with a percentage I choose. This would allow me to use practice balls indoors which would reduce wear on my impact screen, and save my ears. The altitude / temperature setting was an improvement, but it's not the way to go as each club / loft needs individual compensation.

    3. This swing speed feature. Currently I'm using Optishot and PRGR for this, but should be possible to do also for the R10 unit. If the PRGR can do it, it is technically possible also for the better R10. If it could be combined with club path, great, but I assume that would require some sort of reference point which the ball normally is.

  • Did it take the full year to draft this generic nonsense?

I'll tell you instantly my feeling to having heard that,

When I chose to upgrade from my Fenix 5 (thanks for stopping updates) it will be to another brand.

I'll use shotscope because you want over £60 for club sensors to play golf.

And Rapsodo will be my next launch monitor.

Your lack of investment in the golf sphere has cost you at least one consumer here.
