G80 picks up club speed but not ball speed which displays as 0.0

G80 picks up club speed but not always ball speed which displays as 0.0. This started happening a few days ago worked fine before. It would fail to register a ball speed for 10 shots and occasionally give a spurious clearly incorrect result like 30yds on a full iron hit but registered 0 for most part. There is no problem with displaying club speed and tempo.

So reset device then it worked ok for a few shot but then problem reappeared .

Updated device to v4.10 and it worked in fits and starts for a while recording several shot ok and then reverted to problem, seemed to improve when shot path was square to device, but only for a few shots then reverted to problem and stayed that way even after turning device off and back on.

tried device an hour later and it worked fine for 20 or so shots but then problem returned and would not go away even after power off and on.

seems a strange one?

Any ideas as i'm out of them

Seems that the at home setup or net you mentioned using is not allowing for enough ball travel for the radar capture to properly measure your shot.

Thanks for links I looked at them earlier before asking about net ball distance travel. I always use quality balls like callaways.

Looking at some videos it seems like the optimal distance of ball is 6…

Update tried again to day and still no ball speed /smash factor just zeros, swing speed working, Occasionally get a 35yd distance and smash less than 0.5 when I badly hit heavy on mat, would think shot would go 70yds did the same several times with similar carry etc

The device file for your Approach G80 indicates that the software needs to be updated on your G80. Your G80 is showing version 3.30 and needs to be updated for the most current software which is version 4.10.

Try installing the update through Garmin Express, with your approach G80 connected to a home computer using the data/charging cable to USB.

Can send a picture of the device software version as it seems your system has eroneous data

Aside that tried it in the field today instead of net and the unit worked fine. Why has it stopped working using the net? I tried hitting from 5-4yds behind net and no difference. ?

Also an actual golf ball is required to be hit, as opposed to using a foam or practice ball design that is not a solid golf ball with core design.

Looking at some videos it seems like the optimal distance of ball is 6 to 8 inches from unit so I tried this distance and moved the mat back and it worked a lot better

It's still a bit of a mystery why I got this problem after it working for months before, but I think I' may have sorted it. Time will tell!
