feature-request: add sleep data to the sdk (2025)

Please add sleep related data to the SDK so apps/widgets can read the sleep data (similar to ActivityMonitor.getBodyBatteryHistory(),at least the stages with the timestamps, maybe also the aggregated time for the stages and the sleep score)

I opened this "new" request as requested by and as a continuation of https://forums.garmin.com/developer/connect-iq/i/bug-reports/feature-request-add-sleep-data-to-the-sdk .

If you're interested in this feature, please up-vote this.

  • If anyone does, I'll move too. But after my research, the only one that does this plus on-wrist workouts is the apple brand, and for that you need to marry all the apple devices. Plus, I'm not 100% sure if you can customize workouts like in Garmin. So, for now, I think we are stuck, and Garmin probably knows that.

  • I'm pretty sure there are even some with cheap sensors. I don't have any experience with any of them though, their accuracy or usefulness may vary.

I think Garmin knows they have a problem here and probably they estimate it riskier to add a half baked feature that half of the users will want to use, than to not have it (yet?). Look at their sleep data. They can't even detect when you sleep. When it looks like they do, then check if it is really detected, or they just assume you went to sleep at the time that is set as sleep time in the settings...

  • I think it's "time" to move on... someone know if other brands correctly uses their expensive sensors to smart-wake their customers ? (The device must last for 5 days minimum though)

  • Fair point — I initially confused this topic with the smart alarm feature preinstalled on newer devices, which led to some disappointment when I heard it wouldn’t be available on older models.

Just to clarify: once the dev team integrates sleep-related data into the SDK, would that become the prerequisite for third-party developers to build a smart alarm app and submit it via ICQ, so we can get it into our devices?

  • I'm pretty sure that if you ask that sales rep what is "CIQ" they'll have no idea, or will confuse it with Connect IQ app.

I'm pretty sure also, that you don't know it either, do you? This forum is about CIQ. About watch apps that you download via Connect IQ phone app.

IMHO what both you and the sales rep talked about is the new smart alarm feature in the newest devices. Has not much to do with CIQ (though in theory later Garmin can add something about that to the SDK. but this ticket is not really about that either.
