BUG: Venu 2 display somehow shifted on real device, working ok in sim

I'm working on adding HR Zone & candence graphics to my Data Field App. It works perfect on my Epix 2, FR245M and my other devices.

BUT: on Venu 2 it looks as if the whole screen in shifted few pixels both down and left. This is in 1 field layout mode. Which makes my App looks really strange.

I'll attach a picture for how it looks in real life and one for sim.

  • But I typed a huge comment about how the horizontal and vertical dividing lines were shifting on your Epix 2, based on the screenshots you provided, and you responded to it

Sorry FlowState, I had completely forgotten that discussion on the Epix lines!!

I can be proven wrong of cause, but I don't believe still that Garmin are moving around the "native" lines at random to prevent burn in on Epix. I have been playing around (again) with Epix in those layouts where Garmin draw these lines - and they seem always to draw them at the same place vs the data field boundaries. So, no random behaviour as far as I can tell. And, Garmin have also acknowledged that it is a defect on Epix. Furthermore, in my latest version of the App - with the HR color meters - the screen on my Epix looks exactly in real life like it does in Sim.

It's on Venu2 the entire screen seem to be shifted quite a bit - clearly visible - on real life vs sim. And. btw, not always same way on my Venu2, so their seem to be some random shifting going on. Making your point that this is by design very likely! I just wish Garmin would confirm (or not) and document what exactly is going on, e.g. how much do they shift around, when, and on which devices. My user experience suck right now - but if I just knew what they are doing I can design around it. E.g. use less of the screen somehow.

    Garmin, PLEASE comment!?

Isn't it possible that the watch is also shifting other parts of the screen? That would make sense if the goal is to prevent screen burn-in.

  • Thanks for the insights FlowState

The other bug is about e.g. getHeight() returning incorrect values for a specific data field - which is not about shifting the entire screen.

I'm not aware AMOLED screens where shifting - but that can only be for some devices? E.g. my Epix 2 does not do this!?

  • Isn't this similar to other bug report you posted about Epix 2 data field boundaries?

    https://forums.garmin.com/developer/connect-iq/i/bug-reports/bug-boundary-on-epix2-fields-is-off

I thought the consensus was that it probably wasn't a bug since AMOLED devices appear to constantly shift the contents of data fields to avoid burn-in. (Could probably use some documentation and it would be nice if it were reflected in the sim.)

  • Update: As far as I can tell, this shift of the entire screen is applies in other layouts than the 1 field layout mode.
