App: Hike2

The next generation of the Hike app. With additional memory and sensors on the vivoactive HR, all be looking at adding new stuff. Right now, it makes use of the hardware compass and barometric Altimeter!

Like Hike, it's stats up and once it gets GPS, press start to begin the recording. There are then a number of screens you can swipe through to see data, like time-distance, pace-speed, altitude data, lat/lon data, and a chart that shows your hike so far. Pressing the back button while recording marks a waypoint, and pressing start pauses the recording, and gives you the option to resume, save, or discard the recording.

  • Settings should be there. Are you using iOS or Android? Do you have an internet connection at the time?

You should be able to access settings from Garmin Express though.

    Maybe try uninstalling and reinstalling.
  • I reinstall the App and now i have the Settings button, thx...
  • Question: which satellite system will this app use on a Vivoactive 3 Music?
I ask because in other models (I have owned a Fenix3, a Vivoactive HR, a FR 935) you choose the navigation system from a "central" menu: i.e: Settings -> Sytem -> Sensors -> GPS, and there you could choose Off, GPS, GPS+Glonass, GPS+Galileo (eventually).
So, if I set there GPS+Glonass, for example, I could say that Hike2 would use that navigational data, right?
Now in VA3M, the GPS settings are no longer central: you choose them as a specific setting for each and every app (at least, Garmin ones). But Hike2 doesn't have such option, not on the watch and not even on the Express setting menu. So, how can I decide what to use for navigation?
    Thanks
  • On newer devices, you set this per activity, so in "run", you could set GPS+Glonass. The way it works for CIQ apps, is it uses what ever was last used for the last native app used like run.

CIQ apps aren't able to specific which is used, so they just use what was used last.

Sounds like a step back to me... (Not your fault of course)
  • It would be nice if a CIQ app could set what's used for GPS, but it's similar when an app uses on device maps, where things like orientation, stay on roads, etc, can vary based on what was used in the last native activity. Hike2 uses on the devices maps with a f5x, and the f5+ devices now instead of the breadcrumb maps, BTW.
  • When I finish a walk and select Save, the watch plays a tone and Hike2 displays a "Fail!" message and a sync icon with a diagonal line across it, even though my (Android) smartphone is in my pocket and connected. I can then use the Connect app to sync the watch and the data goes up to Garmin Connect, etc. correctly. So not fatal, but curious what it is trying to do and why it fails. (My Edge 1000 is able to trigger a sync and upload when I save an activity.)

Other than that, it's a great app that displays a lot of interesting data!
  • The fail you are seeing is coming from the firmware, and not Hike2. The Edge 1000 has wifi, so it could be trying to sync using that, and that's where the failure occurs.

Maybe try again but with Wifi turned off to help narrow this down?
  • I used the app this weekend for the first time on my VA3 music and it was great! Thanks for all your efforts. Is there any way to see all the data it collected after my hike? Like the barometric pressure and other things? Or do I only get what syncs into the app?
