Watchface: M2

This is the support thread for the M2 watchface:

has created a Facebook group for designs here: https://www.facebook.com/groups/423319952037948

And this PDF files contains a quick visual index to the designs posted in this thread: >>>    ForumProfiles1.pdf    <<<

To create your own design or modify one, install & use the M2 Designer app on your watch. These are the steps you would go through:

  • Optionally paste a text code into the "Profile Text" setting of M2 Designer & save the settings, or load one of your previously saved designs (either via the settings or the in-app menu).
  • Run the M2 Designer app (found underneath your activities list) and create your design.
  • Once you've finished, open the Garmin settings for M2 Designer.
  • The text code in "Profile Text" will now represent whatever your design looks like, so copy the text code from "Profile Text" - and be careful to select the whole text.
  • Close the settings for M2 Designer.
  • Open the Garmin settings for M2 (watchface) instead.
  • Delete any text that was already in "Profile Text" - this step helps to avoid potential problems
  • Paste the text code into "Profile Text".
  • Save the settings.
  • Now when you view the M2 watchface it will show your changes.

A guide for accessing the Garmin settings is here: https://forums.garmin.com/developer/connect-iq/w/wiki/14/changing-your-app-settings-in-garmin-express-gcm-ciq-mobile-store.

  • Yes the only chart is HR currently - it's a lonely menu for sure! I have plans for some other types. It's also just a fixed size - I'd like to allow resizing too.

You should see something at least appear on the display - I'm not sure why you wouldn't see anything … Maybe check the visibility for that field/element, it's possible something in my code isn't working if one of those is set to be hidden. Unless maybe you have hit a memory limit for that profile - but it seems unlikely as the chart doesn't load in any resources.

If you select the HR chart element, then you should get sub options to modify: axes type, bar color and axes color.

If you select "axes type" then pressing up & down when it says "editing..." should switch between some different modes like these:

It's quite basic currently, so plenty of room for improvement Slight smile

Hi Nacken, could you please show the code for that watch face? It's looks very nice and I'd like to use it if I may.

  • Hi Georg, I modified it a bit.

Wonderful, it's already on my watch. Thank you very much.

  • Got it.  That was what I thought after looking thru the Excel sheet.  For a second question:  I didn't see an answer about using the "days left" on the battery instead of a %.  There was a user above that asked, but I never found any reply.  They said it was a feature on the Fenix 6 ??

    Thanks again!

  • In M2 you can't display "days left" of battery usage yet - but it's on my "to do" list Slight smile Slight smileI'm guessing on the F6 it is an option for built-in Garmin watch faces. There isn't an official value for this in CIQ, but I can add an estimation based on recent usage.

  • Hello,

Thank you for this great watchface and for it versatile designing tool. First I used the M2 watch face as such, I was attracted by its simplicity, then I realized the multiples possibilities offered by the Designer tool and saw the multiple examples in this thread. After playing a bit, I stayed with the desire to keep a simple face and I lightly rearranged the default M2 face. Here is the design I'm happily using:

  • A small improvement: the battery icon goes from full to empty at 30%, and the sunrise/sunset icons appear in context:

    1. Great designer and watch face markdotai! I am still trying out some features but I really like it.
Profile of my current watch face features 24 hr time, date without year, heart rate, sunset/sunrise times, step counter and battery icons with changing colours from green, to dark orange to red depending on remaining % of battery charge.

Can someone please advise me if there is a quick and simple way to measure or calculate the battery usage on my Vivoactive 4 or do I have to charge it to 100 % and then check 24 hours later? Thank you.
