Application: dwMap - Route Maps for Vivoactive and other watches

I have just published a route map app, dwApp, which I hope will fill a hole in the Connect IQ ecosystem.
Download from App Store

The primary goal was to offer a route map display and follow capability on the Vivoactive. The app however works on all Connect IQ devices and should be an very convenient way to send a route to the watch after creating it in MapMyRun, Ride with GPS, etc. It also offers an activity recording capability while you are using the routing feature.

I look forward to your requests, feedback, questions and bug reports, in this thread!

Features
- Uses a link code mechanism to link your watch to your account on http://dynamic.watch
- Your dynamic.watch account can be linked to Ride with GPS and Under Armour (MapMyRun/MapMyRide) to import routes automatically from those accounts, or you can import GPX and Garmin Connect routes
- Indicate which route is your current route, and you watch will automatically download it next time you start the app
- App displays a map view or a dashboard (data fields) view
- Map view has three zoom levels, and shows you current position and direction
- Dashboard view shows speed, distance, HR and other common activity stats
- App uses the normal built-in recording capability of the watch, and when you stop and save the activity it is sync'ed with Garmin Connect in the usual way
- App works without a data/phone connection, using the most recently downloaded route when offline

Keep getting invalid route ID whilst trying to import a route to a vivoactive HR

This is one of the routes in question (have tried others to no success too)

Have copied and pasted it exactly, am I doing something wrong?

Just put in the number part of the Garmin Connect URL and it will import fine. I think the #... part is throwing things off. But I was able to import ok with just: 12172083
  • Brilliant, that sorted it. Thank you!
  • Fenix 3 HR support re-added

We did not include Garmin Fenix 3 HR in the list of supported devices in the recent update. This has now been corrected:

  • Glad you like the app! That does sound like something unusual is happening on your Fenix3. It does not happen on the developers simulator for the Fenix3, which shows the confirmation screen before you can exit the app:

It might be worth checking you have the latest firmware on your watch, from https://www8.garmin.com/support/download_details.jsp?id=7623

Anyone else reading this seen this on their Fenix3?

    Thanks for your interest.

I have the same issue with the fenix 3 (fw 7.20), otherwise brilliant app. My last attempt with adding gpx routes with base camp soft bricked my watch.. so glad I found this!
  • I run with dwMap and have done on a regular basis for new routes. Today was the first time I've run with the new 5.20 firmware update.

I've never had a problem before but at roughly 10.5 miles into my run I heard a beep and saw the Garmin logo as my FR630 had decided to shut down then start back up.
When it started back up I lost the ability to continue on my route with dwMap but hadn't lost my run through the standard data fields so could at least complete my activity with a little searching around for the route back!

    Has anybody else experienced similar?

Thanks for your contact by email this morning, and hopefully we can get to the bottom of this quickly.

We have had some other reports of this after the Garmin V5.20 firmware update on the FR 630. It might be that we need to rebuild the app using the newest developer tools, it might be a bug in the V5.20 firmware (especially since we've only had this reported for the FR 630, so far at least), or it might be something a little tangential like the newer firmware not making as much memory available to apps.

  • New release V2.0.0023

I've just updated the store with a new release V2.0.0023 (Aug 21 2016).

This does not add any new features but is built with the latest Garmin SDK version, and this should remove any possible firmware compatibility issues recently reported.

I've also added support for the Edge 520/820/1000 bike computers. I don't know whether that will end up being a popular use case since those units have built in maps, but I'm excited to support the new Connect IQ platforms and explore their potential.

Can dwMap alert you by buzzing /beeping when you are getting close to a waypoint / placemark / POI along a route? Even on the Vivoactive HR?

    Thanks!

Yes, one of features of the Premium version of dwMap is that you can choose a waypoint as a destination to navigate too, then it will buzz when are within 40m of the destination.

    Thanks, Mappicus
