Both CIQ datafields in the activity crash suddenly

I am in a walking activity with 2 CIQ DFs. All of a sudden both display the IQ icon, without anything in ERA or in the device logs.

fr965 FW 28.08. I don't expect this to be fixed ever, as Garmin seems to have abandoned both fr965 and CIQ lately, but maybe other devs will have something important to add.

  • How? There's nothing in CIQ_LOG?

Garmin has tools for debugging the actual FW.  Something we'll never have access to, but they use them.  One of the Garmin folks mentioned them to me at one of the developer summits.  If you've got a DF that can reproduce this, even if it's not every time, point the them at it so they can take a look.  I'm guessing you've never used a debugger on an embedded device.  I've used them before when I was working on a smalltalk VM on embedded platforms.

    Give them a chance.

  • Several things can cause this in my experience. If they use "makeWebRequest" we've seen collisions that cause all CIQ apps to crash. Best to add a random delay to prevent concurrent requests. Also if you have FIT writes, you can exceed the system wide limit and BOOM!

  • No web. Yes fit, but that would happen at the start and not in the middle of an activity and I would see that in the crash log and ERA

  • Is this displaying "IQ" or "IQ..."? The first is a crash, the second is not and does not produce crash logs. If you can provide the apps, we can try to reproduce.

  • Ah,   , that explains at least half of the mystery! What can cause an "IQ..."?

I think it was "IQ...". I'm 99% sure (I haven't taken a photo yesterday, but found 2 older photos on my phone)

update: Ignore the original comment with the link to the datafield. I'll send you the iq or prg file when it happens again, because I already uploaded a new version since it happened last time.
