Developer Verification

Can you clarify the "new" in "Starting in February 2024, new developers who want to have their apps visible in the European Economic Union"? Does it mean that developers who already have an account don't need to do it?

What does it mean if someone who is supposed to fill that form doesn't fill it? Will he notice it when he uploads new apps? Also when he uploads new versions of existing apps? I mean will it be visible in the developer dashboard that the 20 some countries in Europe are not available? Or the only think we'll see is a slow-down in the downloads?

Also this form is one of the worst forms I've ever seen! www.garmin.com/.../

The whole sentence makes little to no sense. For example:

"This won’t affect the features and services you can access in Connect IQ Developer Registration Form or your eligibility for Connect IQ Developer Registration Form developer programs."

OK, so what does it affect?

Or: "I certify to only offer products or services that comply with the applicable rules of Union law." Union law? Is this some copy&pasted form from the time of the American Civil War??? Or you mean the European Union Law?

Look, I know that people usually don't read the legal stuff, but this form is the total opposite of it. This tells us nothing what it is for, just a few examples it is not for...

  • There can be 3 different emails (probably 4):

    Garmin Connect

    Forum

Verified developer email (though it seems not used any more)

And a different email for each app

All but the verified developer email can be changed online

  • I've just realised that GC/Forum/Store use the same email (the SSO).

It's rather strange that dev/store account is the same with the user of watch/forum.

SSO is “single sign on”. Not strange.

Nothing stops you from creating two separate accounts.

  • The problem is I don't remember I've created dev account, GC and forum yes but not dev/store.

I think it's the same with forum and connect. In forum settings email property is disabled,  there is no any settings in developer part of store (only 2 keys) and after login to one service I can explore others. It means one issue SSO allow me to logon to the 3 services.

  • I’ve got a response now from brandon asking for id, supplied it, hopefully that will result in verification.

Yeah, as dpawlyk implied, it’s on purpose and it’s supposed to be convenient for us. It makes sense to me bc Connect, these forums and the dev account are all related to Garmin products.

It’s like complaining that when you sign up for gmail, you also automatically get access to google drive, google photos, google sheets, google docs, etc.

Or like getting mad bc your Office 365 login can also be used for Xbox Live and Onedrive.

Would you prefer to be forced to sign up three times?

I think it's the same with forum and connect.

Considering that there’s almost no reason to have a forum account unless you also have a connect account (and a device), I think this makes a lot of sense. You could almost make the argument that the dev account should be opt-in (most users don’t need one), but it’s very hard to make the same argument that the forum and connect accounts should be separate.

It's rather strange that dev/store account is the same with the user of watch/forum.

I’ll echo the statement that nobody is preventing you from creating two different accounts. That’s what I did — the Connect account associated with my watch is different from my dev account. When I decided to jump into CIQ development, I created a new account specifically for that purpose.

  • And it was my foult not to use another account for publishing apps. But who knows that somebody publish some data that allow to find account in another system...

  • Before I go through these new hoops, do I need to have a new "[email protected]" address ready to go? Should the day come that I have multiple apps, should I use a separate email for each, or just use one and sort it out myself?

  • For me, when filling out the form I used my regular email address, and for each app I use the same ciq-only email for "contact developer".  Here's how it looks for me.  You do have to be logged into the store to see this info.

  • It doesn't really matter which email address you provide where, it's a huge chaos, and they also change it sometimes. Don't give any email address that you don't want to be public anywhere, because it looks like it'll be public.

What I see now is that I have 2 apps with different email. When I go to Connect IQ app, and enter one of the apps, then go to More From This Developer, then I see the email I set for that app. When I go to the other app then I see the other app's email.

I don't know where the other 2 possible email addresses (one you use to log in to the app store/garmin connect, etc, and the other that you give in the developer verification form) will ever be published, but I wouldn't be surprised it one they they will.
