Hi,
I don't understand how the Trending Apps is full almost every day with the applications from two developers: VAW.BE and reno.watch. Seems to not be related with downloads and reviews.
Can a developer pay to be in Trending Apps?
Thanks

Hi Wim, thank you for joining the discussion!
Anyway, as this topic is about the trending category and some devs are wondering why we're there - I try my best to create quality products with lots of options and configurations with a nice design. I’m also doing my best to help out every user that has questions or issues.
We are all doing our best coming with an original design and supporting users. I highly doubt trending is done based on arbitrary looks of the app though. You also have way less users than most other apps that often get into trending.
My guess is my products ended up in trending since I’ve been featured in a Garmin newsletter. I was very honoured by this mention and it caused lots of installs. I’ve also been featured in a ‘Best Garmin watch faces’ article on AndroidAuthority, which seems to be helping as well.
Could be a part of it. Is it the same case for Reno?
Now and then I also invest in advertising on several platforms (Meta, Reddit, Google, etc.) to promote my work. I believe all these things combined translates to more installs, which make my products end up in trending.
THAT actualy sounds more like the reason. Would you mind posting some of your social media links with app advertisement / discussion? Thanks!
P.S.: GARMIN, please demistify the trending algorithm!
I really love what others are creating and enjoy your work as well. But indeed, the looks and complexity can't be the part of the algorithm. But it can help users interact with the products more, which could be a part of it. For example, a simple watchface with no configuration might be deleted sooner and won't have as many interactions (setting changes) as more complex watchfaces. But as I said, no idea how trending works, was just sharing my guesses here. To be honest, I don't think it would be a good idea if Garmin shares how it works, as people would then be able to 'game the system'.
About the ad links, not sure if I can share direct links as it is promoted content which is only visible when the actual ads are running. If you want more details about that you can just DM me or use the Contact Developer form thing to discuss in that.

Thanks for being so open. I'll message you directly through one of your apps. Cheers!
