What does the red H mean when downloading from IQ

When you download a watch Face from IQ, bizarrly,a confirmation appears on the watch that has a large red H character in a serif font.  I could understand therev being an IQ icon or a Garmin icon, but what does the Red serif H mean?

The red is not part of the Garmin identity, the serif font is not part of the Garmin identity and I have no idea what the H stands for.

Can anyone explain this?

  • Thanks for the great reply.  I have seen the H on WFB faces and I'm pretty sure on others too.  Your evidence and theory is good, but it could also be that IQ is adding the H to certain Apps.  The message to say App XYZ has been installed is presumably generated buy IQ.

Also, I can't see why H would be used by WFB when they could presumably use WFB. A red H doesn't convey anything other than perhaps a red warning from a Hacker potentially.  In your image, the IQ and Cat logo make sense.

  • It's not CIQ.  It's what your builder sets as the launcher icon.  Contact them (they aren't Garmin) and ask for a way to specify a different icon, and why they are using the red H for everything now.

  • The message to say App XYZ has been installed is presumably generated buy IQ.

The message is generated by your watch and the watch gets the icon from the app PRG which was originally built by the developer. (A PRG is an app file, similar to an EXE on Windows.)

Also, I can't see why H would be used by WFB when they could presumably use WFB. A red H doesn't convey anything other than perhaps a red warning from a Hacker potentially.  In your image, the IQ and Cat logo make sense.

So, the fact that I've never seen the red H on my Garmin except when I installed a watchface from watchfacebuilder doesn't tell you anything?

The fact that a reddit user posted about a red H in the WFB watchface they're building doesn't suggest anything to you?

The fact that the red H in the watchfacebuilder logo looks similar to the red H that we see for WFB watchfaces doesn't suggest anything to you?

Here's one possible reason for why WFB would use an H logo: the username of the WFB author is joshuahxh.

it could also be that IQ is adding the H to certain Apps.

After everything that was said in this thread, you still believe this? You think that Garmin added the cat icon too, or do you accept the cat icon was added by the dev of the Nyan Cat watchface? Even according to you, the red H has nothing to do with Garmin's brand (and I agree with this)

If you accept that all other icons are made by the app devs (except for the IQ icon, which is the default icon [*]), can you accept that the H icon was made by WFB?

[*] but even to use the default IQ icon, WFB would have to include this in the app file it builds. The default icon comes from Garmin, but it's still part of the app.

I can tell you with 100% certainty that Garmin didn't make the red H themselves, they got it from some app that you installed.

It is still possible that *maybe* there is a bug where your watch saw the red H in one WFB watchface that you installed, and now it is displaying it for every single app that you install regardless of the actual app icon, but I think it's a lot more likely that you just happen to be installing only WFB watchfaces.

Consider that nobody here is seeing the same "problem" as you, and that you by your own words, you have been installing "WFB faces" on your watch.

But here's a way you can tell if it's bug on your watch or your watch is working normally:

    1) Install any WFB watchface: [https://apps.garmin.com/search?keywords=wfb]

You should see the red H logo in this case.

    2) Install the Crystal-Tesla watchface: https://apps.garmin.com/apps/cfdfdbe4-a465-459d-af25-c7844b146620

You should see the IQ logo (or anything other than a red H). Note that Crystal-Tesla is certainly not a WFB watchface

    3) Install any CIQ watchface from Garmin, such as Hexagon: https://apps.garmin.com/apps/b80d0ec7-de6a-426f-a383-855e1ff1da40?tid=1

You should also see the IQ logo (or anything other than a red H). (It's funny that even Garmin doesn't customize the logo for their watchfaces)

If you only see the H logo for 1), then it should be reasonable to assume that the H logo comes from watchfacebuilder.

If you also see the H logo from 2) or 3), then it's a bug in the watch and you should contact Garmin support. But it still wouldn't mean that Garmin made the red H, it would mean that Garmin picked it up from somewhere (a WFB watchface) and is incorrectly using it for non-WFB apps

If after all of that, you still don't believe the red H comes from WFB:

    - Contact the WFB author and ask them if it does

    - Contact Garmin and ask them if they know anything about a red H: https://support.garmin.com/
