Posting scores and stats to GHIN

  1. I have been following a request on the garmin golf watch S62 forum for quite a few months and that request has gotten zero traction so I thought I should post it here instead.
  2. All Garmin golf users should have the ability to have the golf scores automatically uploaded to GHIN handicap system.
  3. Having to score your game in the watch and then turn around and do it all again on the GHIN app is ridiculous.  Most of my golfing buddies use Garmin and all would love this additional feature.
  4. Please add that connection for scores and all the associated stats.  If Garmin is serious about being a golf watch supplier this simple feature is a must have for serious golfers.  Its also a feature that should have been available from the beginning!
  • As other users have on this thread, please feel free to contact the developer for the GHIN app and software platforms to express interest in wanting compatibility with Garmin golf products.

The info I provided on my last response is the extent of the info for the reason as to "why" the feature has not been made available. In regards to the comments in your response to me as to what you think may be "why" the feature cannot be offered...I can confirm is invalid, and has not been indicated in any communications from our end here at Garmin.

Any technical thoughts as to options you think would be innovative or incorporated into our golf products can also be submitted in great detail through our Garmin Ideas web form on our site, if that is of interest to you.

I understand many of our golf product users have been very passionate in expressing interest in wanting this feature to become available for quite some time now. I can assure all of you that your feedback has been seen, and we have reviewed this request thoroughly.

New requests from users here in forums wanting this feature on established threads will continue to be reported by me as well.

    - Thank you

Note: I will not be providing further responses on this topic unless we have any new announcements, or info to provide in the future. Those here can send me a direct message in response to my comments, and I can get back to you as soon as possible.

  • There are a bunch of run-of-the-mill apps on both the iOS and Android app stores right now that allow direct posting of scores to GHIN. I can list half a dozen of them right now. Many of these apps cost less per year than Garmin Golf. I can't see how it's a financial issue when a random app with a few devs can do it, but an entity like Garmin can't. Don't really see how it's an Apple issue either when there are a bunch of Android apps that post scores directly to GHIN. Some transparency on the exact issue would be nice.

  • Thank you, Cody.  I reached out to USGA yesterday and received this reply this morning.

The USGA offers programs for developers to integrate with the USGA centralized computation data via API.  These programs are called the Golfer Product Access (GPA) Program and the Value Added Service Provider (VASP) Program.

The Golfer Product Access (GPA) Program is primarily designed to provide handicap integration with complimentary golfer products and services (i.e. score posting apps) – operating in accordance with the Rules of Handicapping. The GPA program is intended to provide limited handicap integration for approved third-party golfer facing products and services, allowing for seamless handicap integration and convenience for golfers.  Handicap integration may include the retrieval of a Handicap Index, the retrieval of the golfer’s scoring record, the retrieval of Course and Slope Ratings to support score posting and the calculation of a Course Handicap or Playing Handicap, and the posting of scores.

The Value Added Service Provider (VASP) Program is designed to support club products and services (i.e. tournament software, tee time reservations).  The VASP program requires approval from the state / local Golf Association(s) from which the specific club(s) are governed.  There is a minimum requirement of support 10 clubs or 1,400 total golfers.

Please complete and return the attached document so we can determine the appropriate program.

If anyone would like to attempt this integration I’m happy to connect and send you the form mentioned above.  I’m not a developer, only familiar with API’s and such.  I worked around this stuff for many many years so I speak the language, I’m just unable to build some of these things with my current knowledge.
