How to change topo map elevation contours from feet to meters

Hi,

A fresh thread on the matter ongoing for 5 years, the topo map contours in the Explore App on the smartphone can show meters, why is that not possible on the web interface after turning the measurement units to meters ?

Is there a solution now that has not been sent to the public ?

Hi, Ok, so it is Not possible to have elevation in topography expressed in meters instead of feets.

Noted the solution with using the waypoints to get the elevation in meters.

I'm sorry but I can't understand why Garmin can't display contour lines in meters. Topoactive is based on OSM maps such as OpenTopoMap (https://opentopomap.org/) which uses meters and not feet…

From my perspective, Explore Web is largely ignored by Garmin. Many problems for years.

Hello loosepipe Could you include some images of the differences in what you are seeing on both? Also provide the lat and long of the area you are looking at when including the images?

Hi, it can be clearly seen that on the Explorer Web topo maps the elevation unit is in feet and also it can be clearly seen that in the Explorer smartphone App the elevations are in meters.

How do I change the elevation unit in the Web interface ?

Hello again, You can change the unit settings on the explore website Changing Map Unit Settings and Position Format on the Garmin Explore Website. However, it will not change the elevation listed in the topography of the mapping already there. When you view waypoints it will show the elevation in meters. You can create a waypoint on the website but you would have to manually input elevation data as the website does not use location services like the device or app would.

This is not a bug, it's a limitation of the Explore Website's map. While the map will display elevation information via contour lines, making a waypoint using the Explore website map will not include elevation, only coordinates. Elevation will only be included if the waypoint is marked on your device or the Explore mobile app. This is because the device will pull elevation data from satellites and including that in the waypoint while the Explore apps mapping has additional elevation data built into it's Topo mapping.

I have an InReach device and when I share my location with my relatives I would like them to be able to correctly understand all the location information including altimetry.

I think this is a problem of your Explore service in most of the countries in the world.

I am not sure why they would not be able to be? How are you sharing your location with them? Are you doing it so they view your mapshare page?

They should see elevation contours of area around my position/track in meters to correctly understand the morphology of the territory.
