This might be something you can do using a Connect IQ data field. One option is called AppBuilder that lets you make custom data fields based on formulas. You could take the raw distance and convert it to miles. I haven't tried it myself so I can't say for certain it'll work but it's worth looking into.

@trux not helpful at all. Please read the entire question before answering. The focus of this thread is that we want to be able to display swimming distances in miles. Your response simply shows how to switch between meters and yards. That's a basic skill I hope everyone who owns a garmin knows how to do. Thanks anyway. Hopefully someone else knows how to accomplish this or eventually this feature will be added
