Active Calories Report is broken

It appears that around 11:30am EST (June 4, 2015) Active Calories report went seriously broken. The number of calories attributed to walking skyrocketed. What used to be 200-300 KCal per day now is close or in excess of 1,000 KCal. What's more, this change isn't reflected in Total Calories report. Also, the days with no activities (walking alone) still appear to have a reasonably decent walking calorie assignment. So, my only theory is that Garmin started double counting something.

Perhaps, activities that started as "indoor walking" (kettlebells and indoor rowing for which I'm forced to use indoor walking option on my Vivoactive) but have been reclassified after being uploaded are counted twice? Or runs themselves? Or all activities and walking are double-counted as walking?

For example, last Friday (see attachment) I had 1,177KCal active calories according to the Total Calories report. But Active Calories for the same day shows 1,770KCal, with bulk of which -- 979 -- are coming from walking. Looking into day's details, we see that 6,026 steps in my run (540KCal) and 8,002 steps throughout the day (386KCal). So, the day details don't match Active Calories report either.

It just so happens a number of GC modules are not or limited processing at this moment where I can see that the steps from the activity are added into the LPM on GC on the PC and so the watch gets the total steps right but the module is not getting the distances right and miscalculating the calories. This may correct itself when it comes back on-line but there are obvious interrelationships of data between the modules and may not capture the corrections correctly if off line for some time (the observed double counting effect perhaps?)
  • Frustrating to see this thread was started back in June and yet the numbers are still off. I have spent hours checking my numbers of steps, calories, and distance traveled on my Forerunner 235 watch vs. the PC vs. the GC app. The data is different between the PC and app, and in many cases, don't not make sense with general reasonableness of the data. I have created spreadsheets to compare the data. It is impossible to figure out where the problem lies.

I hope this thread will continue to gain traction and will catch the attention of the developers.
  • Garmin don't monitor this board afaik, and probably won't do anything without a ticket being raised through support.

I've actually called a couple of times, and they sort of put me off.

Hmm... The people I've spoken to generally seem to have no idea what their devices do but seem willing to at least try to help :/
    Maybe ask for a supervisor?
  • Yesterday I called Garmin and they started a ticket. The issues I had been having for two days was that my step count was being reflected accurately on my watch (a Forerunner 235), but not in GC or on the app. The number of calories burned and miles seemed to be reasonable, though. The steps were far short of what I knew I had run and walked that day.

Overnight, the steps finally caught up to what the watch said when I went to bed, but now yesterday's calories and miles walked from Daily activities are both off.

Run: 22,566 steps, 1,048 active calories, 14.01 miles (these are all correct)
Daily Steps: 4,728 (this seems right), 852 active calories (now way!), 12.88 miles (physically impossible with that few steps)
The totals on the bottom line accurately add up now. Yesterday, they did not.

This is very frustrating, and I have to believe this is affecting more than just me. It sounds like it has been a problem for a long time. I sure hope something comes of this ticket I put in. I did notice the GC app had an update which I promptly installed last night, but it did not update the steps last night after installation.
