Export to TCX - Where's the Elevation Data?

Former Member

Hi,

I use a Garmin 310xt during my running. I usually upload my data to the Garmin Connect site. I also like to have the data locally on my laptop, so I export it as a .tcx and import it into Garmin Training Center.

Up until 3/7/2015, elevation data was exported as part of the .tcx file. Since then, whenever I export, there is no elevation data. I can see the elevation data on the Garmin Connect site, but it's not exported to the .tcx and not imported into my Garmin Connect.

Anyone have any idea why?

Thanks Tryout. I just had a look and tried the "export original" option but it doesn't work at all. Worth a try :)
  • My elevation data is missing for today. Worked yesterday. My husband and I went on the same run today, so i imported his tcx file and even though his connect site shows the elevation, mine does not. So, that is a website issue, i think. Does Garmin even pay attention to these boards? Though i appreciate any help anyone on this board can offer, I am annoyed that "support" is left to the users to figure out....grrrrr

I'll try again using zip, I'd just used export and save as. Fingers crossed!
    Thanks again,

Yes, it's a Garmin Connect issue, and the problems follow. Where can we talk with Garmin service? Are they ignoring us?
  • I export the tcx file to Cyclemeter on my iPad. I have the same problem for the last 2 rides - altitude data missing...
Does anybody have any information wheather Garmin is working on this problem?
  • I can confirm that for all activities uploaded since March 8, 2015 both the <AltitudeMeters> and <Speed> nodes are missing from the .tcx files.

    I got a similar reply.

Thank you for contacting Garmin International.

Glad to assist you with exporting activities from Garmin Connect to Garmin Training Center.

Thank you for being a Garmin customer. Try exporting the track as Original, this will give you a FIT file which can be uploaded to Training Center.

If we can be of further assistance, please reply to this e-mail.

That's better than nothing, but, the .FIT file's elevation data does not have the elevation corrections that you see on the Garmin Connect graph.

I hope they fix this soon. I know the elevation data isn't always the completely accurate, but the data on the Garmin Connect website is much more accurate than what I get from the 310xt's original .FIT file.
  • Yes, I confirm.
There is also another problem: If you sync your workout on Strava with "CopyMySports" or "tapiriik", the total ascent is incorrect like a "Strava mobile app" because the barometric altimetry is not detected...
