Map view - Full screen

Not sure if this is a bug or just not possible.

I find the map view in Garmin connect restrictive when viewing and planing routes (via Courses).
Is there a way to view this in full screen? not just a letterbox type of layout?

Cheers

Anyone, just did a 21km mountain bike ride and not able to view the map full screen just sucks to be honest.
  • Been raised before, currently it's not possible. You could use Basecamp instead.

Also try posting your suggestion here http://www8.garmin.com/contactUs/ideas/

    Thanks,
I must admit the more I get use to the Garmin and Basecamp the more I rather go back to Suunto, it just seems silly that some basic core functions are missing..!

Comparing to the Suunto / Movescount..

Ability to go Full screen on the Map.
Ability to make a route within it's own website (MovesCount which is the equivalent of Garmin Connect) and have Way-points!!!
Ability to navigate to way-points on the watch, and choose to skip any or start from anyway point on the route.

Ability to compare activities on the one page

Ability to have the track on your activity in Movescount change colour dynamics depending on what you have selected. For example click on Elevation, the track on the map you have done (running / riding etc) will then change to 4 categories of colour, red will be the highest areas of elevation, Orange Mid range of elevation, green lowest elevation and so on. Works for all settings.

Ability for custom apps to also show when uploaded and be graphed.

Not restricted with limited (activities / apps)
For example, there's no Mountain Bike and Walking app. I know you can copy and customise any, but when uploaded to Garmin connect it has it as the "app / activity you copied it from"
Eg I copied the Hike app, renamed to walking, configured it (apart from the icon on the watch, no walking icon!) when uploaded to Garmin connect it is marked as a Hike, you have to manually change it.

The sheer number of activities on the Suunto Ambits \ Movescount are huge, if you want to edit any, when it's uploaded it still keeps it's name and details.

Ability to show battery icon / percentage / sunrise / sunset / storm alert on the watch face, or within one button press.

Ability to show the Altitude over distance or time in a graph on any activity.

When staring an event, you can choose not to detect HRM for example instead of it trying to look (if you have forgotten it)

These are what I can think of for the moment.

The biggest issues for me is 1) the inability to create waypoints when creating a course in Garmin Connect, I tried basecamp, and a) dislike the fact of needing another piece of software b) dislike the interface c) cannot get the same quality map that is shown in Garmin Connect.

    2) Not having the map go full screen, this is amazing it can;t be done, when sharing or showing friends events or tracks, the first thing is "hey, make it go full screen" !!!

I just hope Garmin sort out these issue, I'm telling myself to stick it out with the watch, but more and more I thinking of going back to Suunto...

It's not all negative, I find the GPS mapping on the F3 to be great, Ability to zoom and pan in on a map when navigating is great (just wish for waypoints).
Screen is good, having vibration alerts is fantastic, and ability to edit directly on the watch is great.

The Vibration alerts and edit on the watch and screen resolution is what drew me to the F3, just didn't realise how let down it is in other ares as mentioned above.

For mapping, you might want to consider Ride With GPS, which supports waypoints. And full-screen maps....

Thanks, this is how Garmin Connect should name mapping off (Or Sunnto's moves count site)

Question, how do I import, or instructions / videos mention the "Newfiles" folder, there is non "Newfiles" folder for the F3 ?

Just tried it, doesn't support Fenix 3, support mentioned it will be eventually.
Was suggested to export the track as a TCX file then import into Garmin Connect.

When I tried importing into Garmin Connect I get an error "Undefined"

    Sigh...

Yeah, Garmin Connect doesn't support the importing of courses - only rides, etc.
  • The developer from Ride With GPS contacted me and is working on being able to upload a route / track. Finger crossed.

Even more bizzare is the ability to make the map go full screen on Garmin Connect on a mobile device!....
