Connect does not update yesterdays data

I use Forerunner 15 (2.40), Garmin Express 3.2.29.0 (recently updated), and Garmin Connect (Firefox) on Windows 7.

Since Saturday (I think) when Forerunner updated its software via express, it does not report yesterdays results
with sync to connect.
The info on Forerunner is still there though. Have not had this problem before.

Whats going on? Bug in the software? Some mistake in my setup somewhere? Any workarounds?
  • Interesting thing this AM. I just synced my fr15. The ONLY thing I have changed is that I updated to GE .29 (from .28) yesterday.

ALL the January files in the Monitor directory are now gone, and I have a file from yesterday when I last synced, one from today at 00:00, and one from the time today I synced. Things are clearly working differently than they did yesterday. Too soon to tell if this fixed things.
  • I too just updated GE to .29 and soft reset my watch (held the power button for at least 15 seconds and got the GPS fix to set time when I turned it back on). Now things seem to be working like normal again. A file is created in the monitor folder every time I sync - all old files in that folder are gone. When the trouble started, I too noticed that the .fit files stopped being created in the monitor folder - I had about 180 of them, all gone now except the new ones from today.

Yesterday also updated to .29, and deleted a bunch of old files on the Monitor folder. Just synched now, and the files from yesterday are still there, so February has now 2 recorded days (4 files, because yesterday I was testing 3 times).

However, the information of the steps time of day on the Connect graphs is all messed up since Feb 1, because it doesn't record/show the morning steps, only the afternoon ones (even though the totals are correct).
I don't want to test another non-synch day yet... maybe later in the week, a day I know I'm going to walk less.
  • I don't expect that problems in the past can be corrected, as the data is now gone from the MONITOR dir. It hopefully will be fine for syncs after you updated to .29

Again, I didn't delete anything, just updated GE. Didn't turn the FR15 off and on, or do a hard reset either.
  • I have a case with Garmin, the reference is 1115977

Following deleteing my old .fit files from both the activity and monitor folder followed by a soft reset I can confirm that my end of day steps count has uploaded correctly today. Similar to last month a .fit file was created at midnight (and 2 others at 0200 and 0207 - no idea why that happened as I was not syncing or doing anything particularly active).

So for now it is working.

I don't think GE .29 will fix the problem as I have had the same problem when using GE 3.2.29 (although my laptop that had 3.2.28 was possibly in use when the problem first started).

Also I believe the problem lies in the watch software. When I was testing various scenarios I discovered the latest .fit file in the monitor folder was created by the watch when it was connected to a PC whether Garmin Express is installed or not. In fact the file in monitor is created when the watch is connected to any power source (eg a USB charger).

When the watch was not working properly I observed the previous .fit file was removed whether Garmin Express was running or not.

I was also observing activity files were not in the activity folder when Garmin Express was not running. However the .fit file was created when save was selected on the watch because I was able to undelete the file and upload it manually. Whether it was deleted around the point of creation, when the watch was connected to the computer or some point in between I have no way of knowing.

It would be useful if the watch had a debug mode where you could examine files and creation times on the watch without a computer.
  • Well, for me, It worked fine yesterday, and no steps were lost. I synced early last night, and not again until this morning, and none of the "after sync" steps last night were lost.

Indeed. Same here! Works. Thanks for posting this work around!

I have been having the same issues as everyone else, and I have tried the fixes but to no avail.

I did notice that on my daily summary pages, I started getting a small red stopwatch beside the date beginning on January 31 that says "Time Change" when you hover over it and "Looks like you changed time zones. Your charts will make more sense tomorrow." when you click on it. It has shown up on every summary page with data and is not on the pages that didn't load.

Just wondering if this has anything to do with the issues and if anyone else is seeing the same thing.
