Hi

well I've started using my Vivofit and the bracelet is more or less what I expected, however the same can not be said for the rest of the experience.

Forgetting that its unable to work with my ICS tablet (despite it having bluetooth), forgetting that I was unable to get ANT to work on my XP box (but it works OK in here on my win7 box) the fact that the documentation is miserable (nay absent) is a good place to start.

Nothing worth mentioning came with the device
Starting Garmin Express simply starts a IE window (and I can't stand IE) which accesses (what I assume to be) similar views to my Tablet version.

Questions
1) I am unable to see daily calories (no, not what I eat) on anything other than the bracelet. Is there something which shows on the "dashboard" to summarise that? To be honest that and "activity" (which I suppose steps is a surrogate) is one of the two primary reasons that I bought this thing for.

2) can I display a time graph of my activity (or is this just limited to "sleep")

3) I'm unable to work out how to get my Heart Rate data displayed, does this only "happen" after I've paired my HR band?

4) Is there some actual documenation for this product as the single page pdf is more or less pointless.

5) when I installed my APP on my tablet it said my username was taken ... yet here I am using it

6) when I tried to start my account it also didn't like my username so I had to create a new one ... great work developers!!

7) when I log on to Garmin Connect it asks for my username and password OR email, yet it NEVER works for anything but email / password. Is this something I'm doing wrong or is it just broken?

I suppose that's a good start....

Thanks in advance

If you are still running XP and you use the internet, you also are carrying a HUGE sign that says "Hack me! I'm 4 generations old!"

behind my NAT and my firewall I encourage you to try. I've not been hacked yet and that's saying something

so, now it seems that my emails (one used to start this forum before I bought my gamin {regretting that}) and the email I used to start my account on my tablet are merged and my only username here is buggadup ... which I picked as a joke because after my pellicle username stopped I thought this was messed up

so now I can't log into the forums with my username on my connect (which is one of those emails), and I can't use connect on anything other than IE (god I guess someone will tell me how good IE is next) and Chrome or FFox only see my buggadup account (which of course has no data).

    ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

    Hi

    thanks for your reply

    1. What about the calories widget?

seemed to be related to what I eat, now what I burn ... am I mistaking that?

    2. What happens when click on the activity name? I can see a graph of my activity when I do that?

unsure ... can't get data into it apart from my first (half day) sync

    3. Is heart rate turned on in Connect?

no, I'll look into that when I can get onto connect ... thanks

If you bought a bundle with a HRM then it should be. If not, you need to turn it on, from the last icon on the left. Can you cycle to the word HEART on the band? Do you wet the
    4. The documentation is definitely a weak point.

    100% backing on that one

    7. I only use my username to log in.

    lucky you :-)

Thanks for taking the time to address my issues and provide help

    much appreciated

How do you know you haven't been hacked? Do any modern (latest detections) AV packages still run on XP? All it takes is an email you read....

Hey, I can send you a DOS 5 machine, that is protected from anything that uses a connection over 56kbs! (and knows about BBS systems but no TCP/IP!)

I'm a software engineer (and I develop web apps too) and I've pulled the drives out (thus were not used for booting) and inspected on other modern tools.

as to emails ... not without me clicking something, its scanned, and I don't use webmail

For me, I started doing device drivers in the 1980's, for things like X.25, and TCP/IP. Also did embedded stuff for some time. First Time I used the inet, a box for each computer with it's connections, would fit on a 3'x4' piece of paper. I was in the computer room of a major company the day the very first "worm" hit the internet, and we ran around pulling cables and shutting down systems.

You just added glitter to your "Please Hack Me!" sign! Using XP on the inet right now is simply silly......

I'm shocked at how after nearly a year, the connect website is still as terrible as when it started.
  • clearly your views on lifecycle are tainted ... you are clearly already sucked into the "buy new, and buy another one soon" mentality

I was merely stating the reality of what one should expect in today's world. Whether you agree with how the world should be or not doesn't change the reality of how it really is. Your derogatory response was rude and inappropriate.
