GPX Activities uploaded no longer have length/distance

Former Member

Since the Garmin Connect website downtime yesterday (12/19/14), GPX file uploaded as activities no longer interpret the correct mileage length, or associated calculations. Time and elevation appear to be known, but not distance.

Anyone else see this?

Thanks
  • There is simply no communication. They are all on vacation may be untill march or april ! Be carfull Garmin, with such a situation, you have crossed a kind of red line. No one is immortal !

I've also the same problem... Garmin starts to annoy every user...

I think there it's not a problem of the tracks (and it's beggining and where it ends...)
The best of it is that I export the GPX format, and import it on Strava and it works!
  • Connect is really aimed at fitness devices, you'd be better off using Basecamp for your Etrex. If you must use your Etrex with Connect then you have to accept it doesn't automatically sync.

Just so that Garmin, if they ever bother reading anything posted to this Forum, are listening.

I am not interested in using TWO separate programs to track my activities. Why do they think a 20mile hike across moorland should be not classed as a fitness activity, recorded on the Oregon 600!

Either I record it all in Connect, or abandon Garmin and start using third party.

Between this farce and the single use maps, I am really questioning why I have stuck with Garmin so long. I'm planning to replace my Forerunner and have been seriously considering the new Polar M400, maybe this is the last push I needed.

    Totally agreed.

The Spanish SAT has answered my e-mail and they only say: "dear Pablo, thanks for informing us. Your incident is being reviewed. Bye"

I do not know if its my annoyance of what, but they seem very professional.

Import of .gpx or from BaseCamp does not show distance at all

I experience a similar issue recently - maybe connected?

When I upload a gpx-track from any other source, such as a MotionGPS (iPhone App) or even Garmin BaseCamp, the track is shown correctly on the map but the distance is set to 0 (zero). Time is correct, but of course the speed/pace is also 0. It used to work without any issues for several years in the past.

I can upload tracks to Garmin BaseCamp or gpsies.com and they are shown correctly. I tried to export a gpx and import the new gpx, I used the built-in "transfer to Garmin Connect"-feature of BaseCamp. Nothing worked. So I assume this is a bug in Garmin Connect itself?!

I tried also to switch the language/metric preferences and I tried to use to "old" Garmin Connect. Same issues.

Here is the activity as shown in Garmin Connect: http://connect.garmin.com/modern/activity/664734856

Here are two files I tried to upload / send to Garmin Connect from BaseCamp:
    1) Original gpx file from MotionGPS iPhone App (used to work fine for months/years)
    2) Exported gpx file from BaseCamp (where the track is shown with correct time/speed/distance)

Same with my last activitites. 0.01 km is a bit disappointing :D

I'm using a 310XT, Frant to get the GPS data over to my Linux box and then manual upload to Garmin Connect.
  • Today, I have recorded a 10 kms long trekking path using Osmand on my Android based smartphone (Samsung Galaxy Note 4). The corresponding gpx file generated by this app has been succesfully uploaded to my account on Sportstracklive.com. Garmin Connect failed to upload the same file. Sportstracklive is managed by only one enthusiast guy based in England while Garmin has a true software engineering team with developpers, designers,...etc based in the US !

Distance incorrect when uploading from 64ST via manual upload to connect

I upload the file from the "old uploader" (because I can't use the new one) but the distance is wrong so the pace is incorrect. Any suggestions?

  • Say goodbye to GarminConnect,
I have been searching this last days and I have find no-one that convince me. I am looking something more than Garmin Connect allows, some kind of excel (because of all the freedom managing data) but I think that it does not exist. Maybe Excel is the best option, if only there were a quickly way to import the .gpx to excel without converting to .csv and all that stuff...
golden cheetah, not web based but a very feature rich analysis and tracking tool aimed at cyclists because of its power and cadence data capabilities in addition to heart rate.
  • In any case, still no information about when a solution will be provided has been given.
here is hoping that we will see progress with this monumental bug now that the Christmas and New Year holiday period is over. It is weeks since it was first identified.
