brand new Garmin 920XT won't sync with Garmin Connect -- fail.

I purchased the Garmin 920XT training watch recently. After about a week, it no longer synchronizes with the Garmin Connect website (last activity to sync was 11/26).

Please read: this appears to be Garmin Connect issue (see troubleshooting steps taken to narrow issue down to the Connect website).

Here's what I've tried:

1. Garmin Express (on a new, Windows Surface Pro 3, running Win 8.1) -- every day, I get an increasing number of sync errors with the message: "There was a problem communicating with the Garmin Servers. Please try again later." I'm now at "34 items to sync" (all failed) ranging from hiking Activities to Wellness files. fail.

2. Garmin Express (on a Mac running Windows XP via Parallels) -- doesn't recognize the 920xt when plugged in via USB and I can't find drivers to manually download. fail.

3. Bluetooth sync (Samsung Galaxy Note 2) -- "Transfer Failed". fail.

4. Wi-Fi -- "Transfer Failed (1 File Failed)". fail. **see note

5., 6., and 7. Garmin Connect website using multiple pc's, mac's, and browsers -- going to "Activities" and "Import" to upload the hiking activity's FIT file (after downloading the FIT file from the 920xt watch) result in "undefined" error. fail.

8. Correcting the "FIT" file with the Garmin file fixer tool (can't seem to find the link offhand), same as the above. fail.

9. Manually editing the "FIT" file -- fail.

10. Whatever other methods I tried and have forgotten. fail.

**note: there is more than just one activity/file missing

Surprisingly, here is what does work: using SportTracks. I can actually manually import the hiking FIT file into the SportTracks (both PC app and website). There is absolutely nothing wrong with the file and the data and route show up perfectly in SportTracks. To me, this means the issues is with Garmin Connect.

So, how do I get Garmin Connect to work?

    Commentary:

I find it quite interesting that an independent individual has had the time, knowledge, and ability to create a tool that fixes many of the these rejected/corrupt FIT files, and Garmin, the creator of the system, has yet to address the issue of these rejected files.

I applaud the effort that was put into creating such a tool and it is surely needed, but why should I have to buy or depend on a third party application to "fix" my fit files that were created by a Garmin device?
It would be nice if Garmin would put in place such a tool to help eliminate some of the frustration their customers are having. I mean if this tool can fix these files...

The file that I had that was consistently rejected by Garmin suddenly became acceptable by simply running my file through Mathias Krallmann fit file repair tool.

I don't know, but I think, if I had Garmin's money I'd buy this guys tool, add it to my import function as a last ditch effort to import unruly files, and save myself some grief from the frustrated customers.

    My 2 cents...

I think everyone is having the same problem today best just to sit and wait I am sure they will be sorted later
  • Check the garmin status page at http://connect.garmin.com/en-US/status

The servers are having problems. There is no problem on your end.

I'm having the same problem and I intend on calling garmin tomorrow. I love the watch, but once I tried creating a new activity profile for skiing, I can't sync anything to garmin connect. Such a bummer since I just got back from Whistler, Ca with some fun data. If I find out anything from garmin when I call, I'll repost on the thread.

I think there was an update this past week and for some reason it stopped working for a few days (I have a vivo fit). I had to remove and re-pair my devise this morning and this time it worked. It appears the site may have been down for a repair. Thanks Garmin for fixing this.
    :)

I´m having the same problem, all syncing failing until I remove this weekend’s XC skiing that was recorded in a new Activity profile for skiing. Very annoying!

I had the same problem BUT finally figured out the bluetooth in my iPhone 6 was turned off. when i turned it back on and when i went to a better wifi spot in the house, it immediately connected. So make sure your bluetooth is turned on in settings on the phone. i have been finding the 920 synchs quickly and easily with my iphone 6 plus. the garmin connect website is a real problem for me. i like the classic version, the old version, a lot better than the modern. so i found a way to call up just the classic and put in my bookmarks bar. :)

It's not related to connectivity but to the creation of custom activities, such as skiing. After deleting the custom activity, sync starts to work again. In other words, there's a major bug in the software, and it's still not fixed.. I got confirmation from support yesterday that they're aware of the problem and that they're working on fixing it.
