brand new Garmin 920XT won't sync with Garmin Connect -- fail.

I purchased the Garmin 920XT training watch recently. After about a week, it no longer synchronizes with the Garmin Connect website (last activity to sync was 11/26).

Please read: this appears to be Garmin Connect issue (see troubleshooting steps taken to narrow issue down to the Connect website).

Here's what I've tried:

1. Garmin Express (on a new, Windows Surface Pro 3, running Win 8.1) -- every day, I get an increasing number of sync errors with the message: "There was a problem communicating with the Garmin Servers. Please try again later." I'm now at "34 items to sync" (all failed) ranging from hiking Activities to Wellness files. fail.

2. Garmin Express (on a Mac running Windows XP via Parallels) -- doesn't recognize the 920xt when plugged in via USB and I can't find drivers to manually download. fail.

3. Bluetooth sync (Samsung Galaxy Note 2) -- "Transfer Failed". fail.

4. Wi-Fi -- "Transfer Failed (1 File Failed)". fail. **see note

5., 6., and 7. Garmin Connect website using multiple pc's, mac's, and browsers -- going to "Activities" and "Import" to upload the hiking activity's FIT file (after downloading the FIT file from the 920xt watch) result in "undefined" error. fail.

8. Correcting the "FIT" file with the Garmin file fixer tool (can't seem to find the link offhand), same as the above. fail.

9. Manually editing the "FIT" file -- fail.

10. Whatever other methods I tried and have forgotten. fail.

**note: there is more than just one activity/file missing

Surprisingly, here is what does work: using SportTracks. I can actually manually import the hiking FIT file into the SportTracks (both PC app and website). There is absolutely nothing wrong with the file and the data and route show up perfectly in SportTracks. To me, this means the issues is with Garmin Connect.

So, how do I get Garmin Connect to work?
  • I have all the same problems. I can see everything on garmin connect except runs, but they appear on training peaks.

I ask if this has something to do with Apple health or connected apps? Only asking as garmin support have not been able to assist thus far. Straw poll - is it an Apple link?

It's not related to connectivity but to the creation of custom activities, such as skiing. After deleting the custom activity, sync starts to work again. In other words, there's a major bug in the software, and it's still not fixed.. I got confirmation from support yesterday that they're aware of the problem and that they're working on fixing it.

Custom activities seems to sync now, can someone confirm?

Hello, all. I had just lost sync with 920XTJ and iPhone6 via bluetooth. And I was lucky to be able to recover it. First, I did uninstall garminconnect mobile app from my iPhone and installed again. After logged in, your app ask you if you have any device to sync. then you can go to sync process.

If it does not work, (it looks not necessary. Just in case you need) Second I initialized my 920XTJ. Push power and Down-pointing arrow at the same time. Release power switch when garmin logo comes out. Wait for few seconds. 920 ask you if delete user data and answer yes. Then do same thing from first step.
  • the problem by doing that is that you loose all your screens (swim, bike, run, etc...) it's incredibly annyoing that Gamin hasn't come up with a proper solution to this connectivity issue... I hope the lads in this department are getting it big time because they'll be out of business if they keep launching faulty expensive devices!

    Something that worked for me!

I had this problem on my Home network (via Wifi) and it wouldn't resolve despite trying everything in this thread (I was also getting the same issue when trying to sync my iphone with Bluetooth). I took my watch into work and like magic both issues resolved automatically so it was a network issue! So if you are having this issue, try connecting via Wifi (and bluetooth for iphone) to a DIFFERENT network. To attempt to resolve my issues on home network, I am going to reboot my cable modem and wireless router (as I don't have any other firewalls on or proxies that I know of) - I had read this was a way to resolve.

    Hope this helps!

I think I'm having this problem

When trying to work out a sync issue, it is best not to try it on a different platform, as once it syncs there, the platform where you see issues may see it as an old activity, and not sync it, leading people to think the sync failed.

Little unclear as to which platform will see as old. The original after I try to sync on a second platform? I think this is happening to me. Had a sync issue on my PC. Blew out everything on the watch. Then sync'd with my phone over b-tooth. Worked fine. Went back to PC and is telling me can't sync a .fit file created on the date that I sync'd with my phone. No such file exists so I can't delete/repair. How do I fix? Is there a sync log somewhere I need to blow out?

    920xt no syncing

    Hi,

Not sure if this is the same problem. I got a 920xt. When I try and sync the watch it says "there was an error syncing with Garmin Connect".

Do I have to delete custom settings? I only have "hike" as a custom setting. Just wondering if anyone can help.

    Thanks

    Sync Failed / Sever Error

I purchased my Garmin Forerunner225 a week ago and haven't been able to sync in over 5 days. I’ve tried syncing via Bluetooth and by plugging my watch into the computer. Each time I receive a
“Sync Failed / Sever Error” message.I am extremely disappointed.
  • If you are using Garmin Express on your computer, you should look through the Garmin Express forum or post there. Garmin reps monitor that forum and will answer posts.
