Unable to upload. 310XT

I am unable to upload data from my 310XT to Garmin Connect. Do I need this Express thing everyone is talking about? Is it something I need to download? Up until a week ago I would just plug in the ANT stick, turn on my watch and it would upload. Are my problems due to the awful (IMHO) new Connect?

    Hello Clibbey,

    Did you install Garmin Express?
If so then uninstall your ANT software.
Then restart your computer and re-install your ANT software.

Installing Express after ANT screws up the ANT software so leave Express but re-install ANT.

Might help, might not, but that is what I did.

    Thanks for the quick response!!

No, I haven't installed Garmin Express. Is that something I need? I've never even heard of it.
  • Garmin Express is the new software for managing updates for, uploads from, and downloads to your Garmin device. It is intended to replace the ANT Agent. Unless you really know what you are doing, you should avoid having both Garmin Express and ANT Agent installed on a computer at the same time. The reason is that only one application can control the ANT+ stick at a time! and if app A has it, but app B needs it, things don't work.

If I were in your position, I'd fully remove all Garmin software, rename all Garmin folders that are left behind, and then download Garmin Express from here and install it.

I could never get the "ANT agent" part of Garmin Express to work properly.
Maybe a newer updated version works better?
Maybe it is because I am still using WinXP?
Anyway....I had to have the original "ANT agent" software installed before I could connect my 310XT.
  • So... ANT Agent is the original software application designed to work with the 310XT. At that time you had to have that application in order to send data between your watch and Garmin Connect. In the past few months, ANT Agent has been completely replaced by Garmin Express. Despite a bit of teething issues, Garmin Express is the better piece of software and as a matter of fact recent versions of the software include fixes specifically for the 310XT (which can be finicky).

My recommendation is to completely remove ANT Agent and use Garmin Express exclusively. This is actually the best place to get the newest version of Garmin Express:

Please let us know how it goes.

Does Garmin Express save the files from my 310XT to the same hidden folder on my computer as did the old ANT Agent software?

    I uninstalled ANT Agent.

I downloaded and installed the latest Garmin Express from PZ_RIDER from the link above.

I had 2 new rides on my FR305 and 3 new rides on my FR310XT. I synced the 310 and Express loaded the files into Garmin Connect and the files from the 305.

I have WinXP. I checked all the hidden folders under C:\Documents and Settings\Don\Application Data\GARMIN\Devices....there were no new rides stored on my computer anywhere.

I cleared the new rides off Connect, uninstalled Express, re-installed ANT, connected the 305 and 310 and the new rides uploaded to my computer and Training Center and Old Connect.

I am old (70), my computer is old (XP), my devices are old, my software is old yet it all works perfectly.

What the hell are the Garmin folks doing to their once fine devices and software??
  • I'm having problems with transfering data from Garmin Swim with ANT+ too !
I don't like the ANT technology ! It is not working well ! I'm happy that Garmin Forerunner 620 and Garmin Edge 800 still work with a simple cable !
I'm a huge fan of Garmin, since years, but this is sooooo frustrating. The whole idea of having a kind of log (Garmin Connect) is why I stick to Garmin.
  • I have a 310XT as well and have been attempting to make ANT work for about 2 years now sincew there was some issue with a version of windows and the version of ANT software that had previously been issued. so far I have used about 3 different computers in the process. ANT is horrible and I have reinstalled and re done just about everything several times and it wont work. Now I it looks like I have to buy a new laptop in order for this to work (and because Garmin doesn't have anything compatible for ANT with a chrome system Ill have to waste money on window 8). I currently have not uploading in almost 6 months because of these issues. Every time I was trying to upload I would have to re-enable pairing, re pair, start upload only to have it time out half way through and fail.
