MyFitnessPal Widget

Just seen mfp has been added as a widget - sync's great with MPF and also sends the calories burnt during a cycle to MFP.

Def a step in the right direction.

GC is slowly starting to take shape. Getting better by the day.

Now just sort out the segments!

Update: Just when I thought it was all working - looks like it doesnt sync anymore.

Stuck on Syncing with MyFitnessPal......

Garmin Connect does not appear to sync calories consumed from MyFitnessPal. It shows 0 consumed as of a few minutes ago despite having already logged 1,800 calories of food.

Is anyone experiencing the same issue?
  • Yes- looks like the sync is not working now at all.

I've logged a call with their support - lets see what happens.
  • It's great that Garmin and MyFitnessPal are now syncing, but riddle me this...

On my commute to work this morning the calorie deficit recorded in MyFitnessPal from Garmin Connect is 713, from Strava it is 351 but if I add the activity directly into MyFitnessPal (same category of exercise for the same length of time) I get 548!

    Garmin Connect 713
    Strava 351
    MFP 548

    How does that work then?
  • Same here.
And when I click on the settings wheel and select "Go to Full Page", I get bounced back to the dashboard view.

Each one is using a different algorithm to *estimate* (they might all like to say calculate, but in all cases it's at best an estimate) the calories burned in an activity - using the data available to it (be that weight, height, steps, distance, elevation gained/lost, speed, step rate, heart rate, pedal cadence, temperature, etc) or making assumptions for any data the algorithm "requires" but is absent (eg. if the algorithm has an input for temperature but there is no temperature data, it can either assume a 'reasonable' fixed value or it may import that from another source).

Some include the base metabolic consumption (ie. the number of calories you would use by sitting doing nothing) in the calories consumed. Some do not.
  • Clearly something is broken - from the Android version.
  • Is garmin connect now sending info from all devices or just the Vivofit and the 15?
  • As of a day or two ago it appears to be activities from all devices and manual activities as well. In *both* directions.

When it first happened for me it appeared to be doing some double subtractions of exercise calories, but that appears to be resolved now. The very last piece of the puzzle would be for GC to acknowledge the BMR from my ANT+ scale, but I suspect that will be a long time, if ever. All up I'm pretty happy. I'll be delighted if they fix the BMR, or allow manual correction.
  • This still not working properly on PC or Android.

Garmin haven't responded to my support call I logged either.
  • Sorry simple question, I have gone into Garmin Connect today and cannot find this widget. Where is it located? Thanks in advance.
