Manual Upload Linux User

I have a 310xt and use Linux. I've been using the Garmin-Forerunner-610-Extractor (https://github.com/Tigge/Garmin-Forerunner-610-Extractor) to extract the files from the watch and have then been uploading them manually. However, today when I logged on it appears that the manual upload feature has disappeared. Instead I'm getting an invitation to download Garmin Express, which of course is not available for Linux. I'm not happy first of all Garmin can't be bothered to develop a Linux agent and now to add insult to injury they've removed the manual upload. Thanks Garmin!

Maybe it's a good idea to take a look on STRAVA.com

I was just thinking about strava too. I also thought maybe SportsTracker or similar.

SportsTracker looks good. Think I'll test it.

I too will cease recommending the Garmin units now that there is no manual upload. After losing some .fit files when syncing from my 510 over bluetooth, I now connect my Garmin to my Mac and copy the files to a folder which I back up using git. I then manually upload. I can no longer do the manual upload. Sure I can use the connector (Garmin Express or whatever it's called) but that's not the point. You have taken away choice from your users, and many of your users DO use Linux or choose to use manual uploading for whatever reason. This is a step backward, and does not speak well of what you think of your customers.

OP, can you please change the topic of this thread to something more aggressive like "Latest Garmin Express update broke Linux unofficial support".
I'm hopping for more Linux users to join and possibly show their alternative solutions.

    Thanks

Same for me, impossible to manual upload, it remains for me to spend at the concurrency.

Yeah, what have they done to the manual upload! If not even the Garmin Developers can think of us Linux users, who at Garmin will! It was already bad enough them not nativly supporting Linux!
They must bring back the manual upload ASAP!
  • Same for me, the "connect.garmin.com/.../upload" URL is redirected to "connect.garmin.com/.../start".
This is not the first unfair Garmin's activity that I needed to solve.
The previous one was silently removing the possibility to upload waypoints into Forerunner 310/XT which was declared to be a full replacement of Forerunner 305.
  • After sweeping out the cookies from the browser, the manual upload seems to be back again. Yupee!
  • Yep I have it back too, hopefully it was just a temporary glitch!
  • Hi everyone, I'm also a Linux user with a 620 and I was surprised to see that the manual upload had disappeared yesterday. So if I understand this right, all you need to do is clearing your cookies? Ok, I'll try that and report back whether it worked or not. Thanks a lot!
