I have a 310xt and use Linux. I've been using the Garmin-Forerunner-610-Extractor (https://github.com/Tigge/Garmin-Forerunner-610-Extractor) to extract the files from the watch and have then been uploading them manually. However, today when I logged on it appears that the manual upload feature has disappeared. Instead I'm getting an invitation to download Garmin Express, which of course is not available for Linux. I'm not happy first of all Garmin can't be bothered to develop a Linux agent and now to add insult to injury they've removed the manual upload. Thanks Garmin!
Garmin really ?!?! Not only you never officially supported Linux but now you broke unofficial Linux support! You can't ignore the fact that Linux is the faster growing OS. So please take your blinders off and do something good about it.
I am also a Linux user and have been using Uploader for months to upload data from my 310xt/910xt into my Android phone and then up to GarminConnect and RunningAhead. One can also upload into many other products. I find it simpler and it removes the Garmin communications nonsense.
I always thought that Garmin must have hired a Microsoftie. I came to that conclusion when they changed their maps from Google to Bing. A popular uproar forced them to again offer the Google maps option. This Microsoftie might be part of the reason for lack of Linux support, and could also explain why they can never fix one thing without breaking something else.
