new "modern" Garmin Connect -- no upload button?

I got an invitation to try out the new "modern" Garmin Connect today, and saw the following:

"Our Garmin Express is the new way to transfer data to and from Garmin Connect. There is no 'Upload' button in Modern."

I am a linux user. I plug my watch in to my computer where it is mounted as a USB mass storage device. I copy the fit files off, and upload them to Garmin Connect using the "upload" button. Garmin Express is only available for Windows/Mac. Can you please keep the "upload" button in the new Garmin Connect?

Express has yet to do anything automatically. Never did before and hasn't recently. If my Fenix 2 is isn't supported then I am done with it.

Using a Mac with Yosemite 10.10. When I was running Maverick, it didn't upload automatically either.
  • Express has yet to do anything automatically.

Then you have a configuration problem of some sort. You should read/post in here for help to get it working.
  • Garmin express has uploaded my activities flawlessly since I started using it a few months ago. I have to agree that it's likely a configuration setting in Garmin Express for many of those posting issues. Or possibly firewall or virus protection programs that monitor network activity.

Two possible causes I can think of is that Garmin Express was not configured with your correct Garmin Connect user account. Or, you don't allow Garmin Express to run in the background of your computer and you will have to start it manually to allow it to sync.
  • From a couple of months ago Express also fails to upload my OR650 activities, although it is picking up my device and everything seems to be 100%. :(

(So I have to now export it every time via e.g. Basecamp and upload manually to Garmin Connect. No fw etc issues. Tried many so called remedies etc.)

Ok. I stand corrected. However it has been a complete pain. I deleted and reinstalled Express twice and deleted and re-added my Fenix 2 three times before it finally married up with Express and Connect. It still hangs every once in a while, but it is working.

The reason 'upload' has gone is that it's no longer needed, your device using Express will sync automatically. The 'import' button is there to allow Connect Modern to work with devices that aren't supported or to upload files that may not even be on a device.

Rather than folks not realising what the complaint is it seems some aren't learning how Modern works. There is a help page here which many may find useful:

Susan, I think the issue is elsewhere. it is not uncommon (unfortunately) that for some reason the Garmin Express "ignores" an activity... It has happened to me a few times when I have multiple activities on my Garmin 910XT to upload. When it does there are no "easy way" to get it to upload.
If like me you have ticked the box to delete the activity from the watch, you have no way to push manually for the upload.
Switching to manual, we do have the upload option so that you can reupload an activity to your garmin connect (as activities are stores on your computer too).
So learning how modern works does not hit the need here.
so yes you can workaround the problem and get to ~user/Library2/Application Support/Garmin/GarminConnect/UnitID/Upload (if you are a mac user) and point to the file but the classic interface had a much more elegant way of checking the list of activities and offering the list to select for manual upload...
Telling users that they are not learning how modern works is anything be helping... too bad we cannot rate the moderators ...
